You need to work on your nomenclature. Use the proper names for the parts. It’s not this thing, it’s a piston, and a caliper frame, it’s a C-clamp not a vise, and so on. If you had a real C-clamp instead of that toy, you can clamp it on the caliper and pad assembly before removing it and compress the piston first. It’s easier to accomplish so you are not working behind the rotor and trying to hold all the pieces together while tightening the C-clamp.

Great video…very helpful so thank you! One thing, though. Isn’t it a good idea to wear gloves when spraying that brake cleaner? I’ve heard it can get in through the skin and do a lot of harm to the liver. Just a thought.

Thank you for posting this. You saved me some money and headache. Found out Subaru’s have 2 pistons. With the configuration of the caliper, I got away with using (2) 4″ c-clamps and a board. Thanks again.

Spary some wd40 and clean around with a wire brush. Wipe clean and spary some more WD40. Come back after 5 mins and wipe the area clean. Use the impact wrench and it should come right out.

Should have used a Hi-Temp Brake Grease not the chassis grease you used from a grease gun! Permetex, Sil-Glyde, and others make the appropriate greases that can even be purchased in little packets for about $1.50. Regular petroleum grease will burn off especially on the pads where it gets the hotest. Additionally, the slide pins should be lubricated to keep the caliper sliding freely so both pads wear evenly. Petroleum (chassis) grease eats rubber making it swell and become less subtle.

Yes, only two holes are used to secure the disc brake. The other two are threaded holes that can be used to force the disc off if it is stuck to the hub. Bolts are threaded through the holes and then tightened.

I’m just wondering why you took the retaining screws off from the left and the right holes, but then put them back on the top and bottom. Do only two of the 4 holes have retaining screws? And if so did you just rotate the wheel or something?

you’d have to be a real dumbass the fuck up those to screws you use a impact screwdriver with a big hammer if you dont have one use a thick philips head screwdriver and a hammer

try different size head phillips screw drivers until you can get one with the tightest fit….I had a phillips that fit very tight in the head of those screws….sometimes it helps if you have a phillips socket for your ratchet too

Is it the caliper or the piston what it get stuck?, must be the piston, it happened to me with a minivan and Justbrake did the job, they fix the piston intead of buy new calipers.

You do not need to use the screws for the rotor(s) the lug nuts will do the job just fine.

Sounds like your calipers are getting stuck. That burning smell comes from overheated brakes that are stuck on. You may have to get new calipers if they are froze up and not returning to position.

I am not a mechanic, but you should check your caliper pins – the ones he took out at the start – and grease them with silicone grease (available at any hardware store) and make sure before you screw them back in that they can slide in and out without interference. Don’t give up, everyone has to make mistakes in order to learn.

Aren’t you supposed to pump your brake a couple of times before driving any where once your done ? I heard you can crash since the pistin from the caliber is all the way in.does anyone know if this is correct or not ?

I changed my pads three weeks ago and i checked them yesterday and there a ll worn out completely that my rotors got heavily damaged. (I just bough a whole new set) before that my breaks gave out a burning smell that keep on for days. Is something wrong with my piston?

Sounds like your pads are totally worn down…pull the wheel off and take a look at the pads….if they are grinding that pad you will need rotors too…exactly the same as this job you are watching

When I press on my brake I get a constant grinding noise. Then as I accelerate I hear a noise like a disc spinning. It’s only on the passenger side. Is it the rotars?

Great video sir. I just bought those ceramic pads today ,but I was not sure about to change new rotors or just cut them… but its not very big difference as you said about the money… also I really drive my 94 civic a lot so I think is fare for it,lol…. Its an easy job thanks for the video!!!
