Brake Service DIY for 2008 Acura MDX

Brake Service DIY for 2008 Acura MDX

I’d like to dedicate this episode to my grandpa Kolya. On May 3-d, 2017 he would have turned 93.

I have no doubt that it was thanks to him I once discovered a passion for automobiles, although it happened many years after I had been witnessing him taking utmost care of his Moskvitch 408/412IE to keep it in running shape.

His love, care, spirit and determination will not be forgotten…

Allen Manor says:

I am considering doing this. I bought my 2011 4 years ago and it had just had new pads put on but they look a bit thin to me. I wonder — when do you know to replace the pads and rotors?

Herakles says:

Love your channel I did front lads and rotors but after I finished the brake pedal goes to the floor and doesn’t build pressure what you think is? I never broke into systole

ngbdq says:

14 mm bolts for the front break sliding pins in 2006 MDX. Somehow Acura decided to increase the size to 17 mm for 2008 model.

Logisticalstyles says:

Everytime I do my brake maintenance I watch this video as a refresher.

arr164 says:

Hi, thank you for the video. I couldn't flip open the caliper even after opening and removing both bolts. Any idea why it's stuck? This is happening on both front and rear. What am I missing? Thanks again.

Flashgamer says:

Like your videos, so easy to follow, I have an Acura ZDX 2012 Technology Package. Do you know the order that I have to bleed the brake fluid lines. Is usually passenger rear, driver rear, passenger front, and driver front. Is it the same order for this car?

Techno says:

Thanks for this video. It has encouraged me to service my brakes and replace front pads. Wondering do you have any video or plan to make one to show jack up points for front and rear of the MDX? There is not much clarity on how to jack up MDX from the rear or front. I have changed my hid lights after your video and now plan to work on my brakes. Thanks,

J C says:

Do you need to remove cap for fluid reservoir when pushing piston in? Others recommend opening bleeder screw, ( so dirty fluid does not go back towards master cylinder), do you need to bleed brakes when done if you chose this option? Thanks for making this video.

arr164 says:

Thank you very much for the video. Very well made. Would you please provide part numbers for genuine or high quality brake pads and rotors? Some of us (me included) go through a set of pads quicker than 40K. When do you think it's worth changing rotors in addition to pads?

Mario Almanza says:

Great video but those pads had plenty of pad left? They barely look used did you do this video simply to show or did you really need them?

Sherwin Castro says:

Hi! Can you please mention the proper torque specs for the front bolts of brake caliper and bracket. Thank you!

Acura Addicted: As an avid DIYer in several diverse areas I want to learn as much as possible about doing some "simple" maint./repair jobs on my MDX, and having found you as someone with obviously lots of experience in this area I hope you don't mind if I occasionally pick your brains about this. Concerning oil change on my 2008 MDX, the manual recommends 5W20 oil. I have on occasion used 5W30 (Mobile fully synthetic) instead since that's what Costco generally carries where I often buy this item. (Costco prices, BTW, are about half of what I would pay at some auto parts shop). My question for you is: does it make a big difference, or cause any harm to the motor if I use 5W30 in place of 5W20? Also, would you use same oil grade all year round or recommend different grades for summer and winter.

Francis Levesque says:

i just did my brake service on my 2009 mdx elite because of this video. thank you!!
