I changed rear shocks to my Volvo in my parking plot. Took about 2 hours to
complete and was an easy job. With full of self-esteem I started to also
change a CV rubber boot. All went well before I started strugling with the
lower ball joint. First of all i didn’t even get the brake caliber or
rolling-bar off because they were heavily stucked. The ball joint stayed
and I decided to finnish my working for this day. I tried to hit it with
s-driver like you did in this video, but it was jammed.

Question: would the CV axle from a 5 speed manual be the same as the one
from an Automatic ??

LifeInElSalvador says:

the way that I do it is : just remove the 2 strut nuts and bolts, tie rod
and the whole rotor assembly swings out. Then I remove the shaft.

Good video guys. On some Volvos (XC90) that ball joint is pressed into the
hub and the bolts would strip out if used to pull it in. Need to pop the
ball joint out of the control arm or remove the control arm from the frame.

whats the cost for parts and labor??

Changing an axle in C4 A6 is much easier. You don’t have to disconnect the
hub, it’s enough to turn wheels maximally and then you are able to push the
cv joint out of the hub. There is no bearing on the axle, only in the
gearbox. To disconnect the inner cv joint you just unscrew 6 hex nuts and
that’s it :). If you need some info about a6 c4 repairs drop me a message,
I did a lot of work on them. You’ve got a great car man, there are not many
left.

Don’t forget to put back the dust caps on the caliper slide bolts:)

Thanks for taking the time to show how it’s done.

Great Job! I need to work on 1995 Audi A6. Your video is great for giving
me a good idea what I’m in for. The camara shots are amazing and the dialog
is “real”. If you don’t grunt at least once in a repair, it was TOO easy: )
