referring to?
Crank position sensor and bracket likely need to be replaced for that sort
of problem.
Hey Kris. I have a problem with my 06 Volvo C70 t5. In the winter it`s very
hard to start it. Maybe on the second or third attempt it will go. And when
it first start a message willl pop up in the display “motoreffect reduced”.
This message will stand there for about 5 minutes. Can it be a ETM issue
you think? Or maybe the air mass metter or landasonde?
This was helpful; although I did not have an issue with the ETM. I cleaned
the throttle body and walla! The car is running perfectly.

Yeah thats what i thought. It was a bit harder to do than on the 2.9 but
this video does apply to the 2.8 t6. thanks for the guide.This did fix all
idle problems i was having.
The car is a 2.9, no the turbo version.
Is this not a t6? I did this on mine and had much less room to work with
due the the fans.
Hey Kali did you figure out what the problem was?? Mines is doing the same
thing and the mechanics are thinking its the Air Mass Flow Sensor.
Not sure if you’ve solved the problem yet, but I also own a 99′ S70 with
the same symptoms. Get the check engine codes read – it will most likely be
an ETM or MAF issue. Cleaning the throttle body as in this video was a
temporary fix for me (lasted 2 years). I am now having to replace the ETM
this week. Good luck!
Not so sure about this kind of cleaning. Mostli is the problem inside of
the body. And 60% of this kind of engine brobles it ends up that cleaning
fluid if u spray on to the trhotlebody it gets inside to the electric parts
and it get worse. So no go for this kind on cleaning. U can clean the body
but no spraying.
limp home mode and yes this could be the ETM or the ABS module both parts
are easy to replace but hard on the wallet. Remember to have the computer
re-flashed by a trusted mechanic who has the ability to do so. Call around,
should cost no more than $70.00. The ETM is around $600.00. The ABS module
is around $300.00. Like I said hard on the wallet. Both jobs can be done
easily yourself following directions. No need for expensive mechanics. This
is the only problems that my Volvo had (14 years).
My wife’s V70 1999 had the throttle body problem. (ETM). I bought the
replacement from Xemodex, an outfit from Canada whom I could rave about all
day. They are my heroes. The part came in the next morning and I got this
done in 15 – 20 minutes. The new unit has an infrared eye in it. (no moving
parts to ever fail again). Remember to have the car’s computer flashed
after replacing any major component like the ETM. Very easy to replace,
expensive part though. Costs $600.00. ouch!
I don’t think so. My car has never had the symptoms you indicate. Perhaps
check with some news groups. I’ve heard of this issue before but i’m not
sure want the problems is Volvospeed or mathewsvolvo
My 1999 Volvo S70 engine is now sputtering and will not go over 20 mph.
This just started but it is not happening all the time. Do you think this
can be a ETM issue?

tach jump could be due to a failing crank position sensor.
Hi Kris! Greetings from Norway 🙂 Very nice and explanatory video. I
recently bought a Volvo S40 – 1.6D 2007, and my Volvo does exacly this, but
only at a relatively slower rate. And when I accelerate, the RPM drops
alot, and the car starts to lose power untill I accelerate more. One time
it choked while I was in first gear, and holding down the clutch (manual
car). Is that sound similar to that car you just fixed?
I don’t think the tach jumping before starting is related to the ETM–mine
never did as you describe.
Hey Kris, recently when starting my Volvo the tach jumps up really fast and
then back down as soon as I turn the key (but before engine actually
starts). I read that this may be a sign the ETM is starting to fail.. Did
yours ever do that? I don’t have any idling issues yet. And it’s only done
the tach spike twice in a couple of months but just trying to be prepared
and plan on getting a Xemodex if i need it. Thanks!
addition: cleaning is good but often not the real fix, it’s the TPS contact
tracks that wear out.
this POS is not made by Volvo but by Magneti-Marelli, an Italian job. It’s
used on various Euro cars/carbrands. It can be fixed by installing a Sacer
contactless magnetic TPS on the Magneti-Marelli throttle module.

While your at replacing the throttle body, don’t forget to replace the
transmission and ABS control unit also.
Thank you very much. I have a 2001 V70 and non turbo and have the problem
thay was some times very difiult to start. I called my mechanic and he
conected the scanner witch red the failure at the ETM. The mechanic told me
that it had to be changed for a new one and I red about warranties for
Volvo for 200k Milles or 10 years. I live in Guatemala and Volvo in
Guatemala does not cover that Warranty. By doing this it started inmidiatly
many times without problem, I hope it satys like this. Thank’s..
