I have a video on my channel, Start after fuel pump replacement, nothing to
it just make sure you have gas in the car and you will have to try to start
it a few times till there is gas the lines.

biga3bd says:

After installing, do you have to purge the pump in any way? I just put mine
in with your videos help but I haven’t started the car yet (2000 s80, steel
tank, no connector on the top of pump)

joeamin100 says:

where is this placed in the car ? Volvo 940!

Nick Resnick says:

It is a 2000 Volvo S80 2.9L. It has the plastic tank. I uploaded a video if
you get a chance please take a look at my profile and tell me what you
think I should do.

Art S says:

Don’t worry about the details just make sure you replace everything the way
it was. There should be no open holes on the tank itself the tank is
pressurized so there should be no holes. Tell me this–is this a plastic
tank or a steel tank? Try putting some gas down that hole most likely it’s
not an open hole. Keep in mind there is a total of 3 designs two plastic
tank and one steel.

Art S says:

You will be fine just be careful when ordering parts.

Nick Resnick says:

Great Video man I am in the process of doing the same thing and this helped
a lot. Question tho. Was there a dime sized hole about six inches away from
the fuel pump? I just took the back seat off my volvo and there was a hole
that looks like it goes right to the gas tank. Maybe its a breather hole?

Luis Garcia says:

Awsome Art S.! Thank you so much for producing this video. I began doing it
by just guessing around, but now I feel confident enough to take off the
fuel pump.

Tom Jones says:

Maybe a fuel pump relay? It’s an electronic part where soldering went bad
at warm temp but works at cold temp.

Tom Jones says:

Oh, I was talking about the starting issue

Art S says:

Call Volvo North America (8004581552) and ask them, the worst they will
tell you is no, keep in mind that car companies are required to take care
of known safety issues regardless of miles or age if they do in-fact issue
a recall (safety related) I will upload more videos with actual interior
replacement. Make sure the leak is NOT at the fuel filler neck where it
connects to the tank.

Art S says:

Glad it all worked out!

SuperMario811 says:

Ah, the starting issue was also the result of the fuel pump. Starts right
up easily on the first try! Thanks for your help, though.

SuperMario811 says:

It was a leak at the top of the fuel pump, itself (perhaps due to erosion
by constant gasoline in the canister?) My S60 is about 13 years old, and it
looks as if the fuel pump has been replaced maybe once, but the new one was
installed yesterday, and it’s working perfectly! No leaks, no gas fumes. 🙂

SuperMario811 says:

Come to find out, it was definitely the fuel pump; It was spewing from the
top, but I got it out today! I used the same cable technique, as well.

SuperMario811 says:

This video is very very helpful, and thanks for posting! I have a minor
fuel leak in my 2001 S60 (base) above the fuel tank—possibly right around
the ring where you remove the seats and blue cover. I heard our model years
were recall models, but I’m way out of warranty.

SuperMario811 says:

Already called about a month ago, and they said according to my VIN number,
it wasn’t a recall model. However, on the plus side, my next door friend is
a mechanic, so I took it to him about two weeks ago, and he said it was
definitely something to do with either the gasket, or the fuel pump,
itself. It’s leaking from above the tank, and about a pint of gas is
flooded just outside the canister. Also, the car struggles to start when it
sits, but starts perfectly later. Could it just be the gasket?
