I really appreciate you taking the time to make and post this video.
In less than 12 hours I discovered broken hinge, searched online and found this video, bought plastic hinge locally, and just installed it in less than 15 minutes.
Thanks again for taking the time!
Richard

while this is a simple and cheap fix , the problem occur too often … I just did this for the third time since i own my car (08 s80)

DRNewcomb says:

Thanks for the video. To remove the old hinge from the door, after removal from the car, you just twist it off the hinge pin. It pops right off. If you break the punch pins off when attaching the new hinge, drive them out and use some self-tapping screws in their place.

BushBaby1980s says:

Simplest means of detaching old hinge from door pin is to cut through the back with the smallest diam dremmel blade (took 2 sec each side). This will leave only c 10%, which can be snapped off with a flat-head screwdriver.

Those forced to contend with a snapped off expansion pin, so long as you still have the pin, the situation can be saved. I (patiently) filed down the end of the pin just enough to give it a taper in order to stay in its hole on its own, preparatory to a gentle whack.

Huge thanks elvisandmick! I was about to order one for about $9 and was unsure about making the switch. I looked at my broken hinge and had no idea how to detach it. I decided to turn to YouTube for help and found you. Not only did you show how to switch it… you saved me a few dollars! I was able to order the Dorman part for $3.25 with free shipping. Cheers.

elvisandmick says:

@MEGACONNECTED you should be able to just snap it onto the rail of the old door, and then line it up with the holes in the car body and punch the pins down.

MEGACONNECTED says:
