I had a ’87 740 GLE. I put over 400,000 miles on it. The ODO is in the small pic I have on my channel.

0w-40 for european cars

RSpi007 says:

The owners manual has several weight options depending on the climate. I use full synthetic and I live in a hot climate. Yesterday the heat index was about 103 (dash read 108 at one point). So I use 10w-30 in the winter and 10w-40 in the summer.

I have read about a guy that was using 5w-30 and wore out his motor in 30,000 miles. That would be about a year for me. I sent an oil sample to BlackStone Labs and they were impressed with my sample results after 5,200 miles on the oil.

Thank you for the information on the oil change. I have a 1997 volvo850.. I notice you use 10 w 40. I saw somewhere else to use 5 w 30. That leaves me a bit confused

What about the trasmission fluid change? I have the T5, has 260.000km, that’s 160.000 miles. Anyway, thank’s for posting.

Claudio Navea says:

I mean MAF…

Claudio Navea says:

MFA??

RSpi007 says:

If you have a CEL, you need to have the codes read and find out what is GOING wrong. It will only get worse. The likely problem is a MAF but it’s best to check the codes to find out what is going wrong.

… and I also changed the cooler reserve tank. With that car I have traveled a few times from Auckland to Hamilton without any problems… the car has only 149.216 km… thanks

Claudio Navea says:

Hi, the car does not stop all the time, just sometimes when I’m stopped in front of the traffic light or when I reduce the speed (very slow speed) this does not happen very often, but it happens… when I bought the car it did not have one of the fuse, #3 (10A, overheating warning, catalytic converter, speed warning)… I put the fuse back on and sometimes the light started flashing for a few minutes and goes off. I’ve changed the fuel filter, I m using only 95 octane gasoline

RSpi007 says:

Does it start right back up and run till the next stop? Do you have a CEL (Check Engine Light)?

Claudio Navea says:

Hi… a few months ago I bought a car and I did not even check it because I was in a hurry. The car is a volvo 850, 1995. Definetly is a fantastic car, big difference with my previus car… sudenly the car stopped specialy when I slow down, not always, but it happeneds… I changed the fuel filter, but I still got the same problem, by the way the car is fantastic. Any sugestions? thanks

leomannpictures says:

Thanks! I’ve never tried the priming method so I’m anxious to give that a shot on both my Volvo’s tomorrow.

Stewart Engerer says:

Thanks a lot bud. Really helpful! You did a good job showing the underside of the car with the camera. Keep them coming I’ll be sure to check your other stuff out as well

RSpi007 says:

My car has 227,600 today. I put 2,500 miles on it since my last oil change a month ago. I plan to put 5,000 on it in the next 3 weeks. Just racking them up.

Frans Bunschoten says:

indeed, 1 in 2500 is not too bad for a wite block turbo! it equates to about 1 liter in 4000 km if I’m correct. what mileage is on it? filling up is a whole lot easier and cheaper than pulling a head and doing stem seals and seats. Nice to see you are dedicated to keeping these cars going!

RSpi007 says:

No, I checked the oil when the car was on a level ground before I put it on ramps. I loose about 1 quart ever 2,500 miles which is fine with these turbo cars. A little oil gets by the old hard valve steem seals.

Frans Bunschoten says:

I like your video’s, very helpful. Did you check the oil level with the front wheels on the ramp? that would explain your lost quart of oil

Mike Clarke says:

Appreciate the video, keep them coming.
