In this type of mirror, you do not have to remove the mirror (glass) at the beginning to remove the housing. This is nicely shown at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3eLIJUPxkM
Hello, I have a 2018 v90 CC with the same exact mirrors.
When I try to remove the cover exact as you were found and using the nylon tool, the cover doesn't want to come off. How much prying and forcing did you need to do?

Thanks for the video! Really helpful…am thinking of doing the same to my 2020 XC90. I was wondering if it's necessary to disconnect the wires to the mirror? Could one just slip the connected mirror through the opening of the old cap and do the same with the new one?
