How to install the long and short serpentine belt on the Volvo 850, S70, V70, etc. – VOTD

In this video I show how the serpentine belt is suppose to be routed on the Volvo white block engine. This should be good for all of the Volvo 850, S70, V70, 960, S90 and V90 cars built between 1992 through 1998.

Hello Robert, I hope you can help I'm at the end of my tether here. It's one problem turned into two:
1. I got a reconditioned alternator, got a garage to fit it, it was fine except it didn't work.
So I got a new alternator and swapped it myself, and the belt was out of line, running over the edge of the pulley.
I got back the reconditioned one, which has been fixed, and fitted it and the belt is still over the edge of the pulley and I don't know why.
It might look like it is the pulley wheel that is off but I don't see how that can happen.
2. I needed a new belt for this last fit, the one that was fitted was 1750mm but the supplier said it needed 1745 and sent that, now with that belt on there's some clicking around the steering pump or alternator, I'm wondering if it's because the belt is too tight. It went on ok but with no slack.
Thanks if you can help, and thanks for all you do for the Volvo community any way.
Regards.

Robert, the belt the factory put on my car in late 1994 is 9146557 and it still seems to be available on an online Volvo web site. The site normally seems to point one to 9186352 which I bought and it is longer but I am just about to install it. It sounds like the longer belt I have will work but I must use the new routing otherwise the belt will be poorly tensioned. That could be a real curve ball if you don't know this. Hey I bought your yellow tensioner 2 years ago – now I'll finally use it. You are the MAN!

Hi Robert! a big fan from Sweden here! I have a question. Found a 855R (black, 130000 us miles, manual) for sale with some problems. first it blue smokes during cold starts, 2nd gear sometimes jumps out, and non working front fog lights) is it the turbo you think that would need to be replaced? can I take an other gearbox from a t5 and still keep the LSD that the R has? would you have bought it? oh and the price, 1200usd. best regards from a cold Sweden
