many thanks just sorted out my v50 with no big bill, i would not have
believed it could be as easy as a loose conection

Adam Bednarz says:

Did you ever get your issue resolved. What was the culprit.

dokanyon says:

oh yes i just had to replace the battery

dokanyon says:

the car is acting really weird. It gives many messages. Not only the
immobilizer message. It also said SRS airbag, something about Steering,
Urgent service and 1 more that i cant remember. So i guess it must be
another more serious problem… I sometimes couldnt even lock the car.
Maybe the “brain” or whatever its called is damaged.

Juan Carlos Guerra Marroquin says:

Thank you i did what you say and it work

Adam Bednarz says:

Cool Glad to hear.

Adam Bednarz says:

The owners manual I put in the description is on the bottom. Normally
electrical issues are the hardest to diagnose.

dokanyon says:

Those fuses and relays you are talking about , what are they?

Adam Bednarz says:

Are you getting the same symptoms? or are they different? If this doesnt
work have your battery tested since I have seen some similar issues be
caused by weak battery and make sure the battery terminals are clean on the
battery and harness.

dokanyon says:

if this doesnt work? what next?

Adam Bednarz says:

The “brain” is the fuse box underneath the dash on the passenger side. They
call it the fusebox or CEM. bottom are the connectors and other side are
fuses and relays. I updated my description with a link to a 2006 Volvo S40
Owners manual and on page 181 shows you how to gain access to the fuses and
relays. Check if there is any water in that area because if water gets into
the CEM then it can cause weird issues. Also check ground points. Also test
your battery and clean the connectors.
