I had this exact problem several years ago on my volvo s70 added the big 3 up grade as they call it it and the problem went away

Being grounded isn't just a good idea – it's the law (Thanks, Dr. Ohm )
It's interesting that the ground wire from the battery is grounded to the body (under / in front of the battery), on the subframe and on the transmission…but not onto the actual engine itself).
