ABS Tracs light, module, controller repair, removal, install – Volvo 850, S70, V70 and other cars.

ABS Controller Repair: 1 to 2 hours ($5 / $225 / $850)

Suggestion, if you have a Volvo 850, x70 vehicle, contact www.MidWest-ABS.com to have your ABS module repaired. I have tried a few others without success.

You can remove the module and drive the car forever without it installed. The only issues will be: No ABS, No speedometer, No odometer.

In this video I show what I do to repair the ABS controller problems which are usually bad/broken solder joints within the controller. There are a few ways to do it or you can replace it with a refurbished unit that you purchase from some re-builder.

John Young says:

Hi Robert. My instrument cluster has stopped working completely except for the odometer, thermometer and clock. I live in Florida and the summers are very hot. The cluster would not work until I drove the car and it cooled off. Then they worked sometimes. Now not at all. Please help.

Hi Robert. Hope you are feeling better. Earlier today I removed my airbox assembly on my 97 Volvo V70. I then removed the multiplug and gained access to the dual pin socket. I then held my soldering iron for 2 minutes on each pin as suggested by yourself. After reconnecting the plugs and reassembling the airbox I took the vehicle for a test run. So far, so good! No tell-tale brake judder as happened before when the plug connection previously failed. Thank You My Friend!

Hi, quick question. So ive had this problem, where the ABS lights turn on when im driving(only sometimes) and after a few minutes the speedometer will stop working and eventually everything electrical turns off until the whole car shuts off. then after hours and a jump start, everything will work perfectly. Is this all caused by the ABS module?

George Hansen says:

Robert, I just wanted to convey my deepest thanks to you for creating these videos. About six months ago I bought a 98 S70 for my son and have used your videos on probably 20 different repairs. I feel like I can fix just about anything on that car with your guidance. Keep up the good work!

padepede says:

I cut mine open and re-soldered the joints about seven years ago, worked until recently. This time I simply sent it to Matt at Midwest-abs.com. No fuss, no muss, $75 total, done.

Robert Cooper says:

If I buy a module from the junk yard, do it have to come from the same year model of my vehicle?

cam's Maker videos says:

thank you so much

Michael Angelo says:

E 5 female-star socket….if yov cannot get one –a 4mm conventional socket works jvst as fine…..

Hello Robert. Great videos! Here's a new one. I have had my 96 850 R Volvo for 15 years. Last week my speedometer started working intermittently. But here's the thing, my ABS and Trac system haven't been working for over 10 years and my speedometer has been working fine during that period. I watched another one of your videos about replacing the ignition switch, which I did, and it didn't fix the problem. So now I'm wondering what it could be.

Jitterbug549 says:

Robert my abs tracs light came on and all my gauges went crazy and the a/c cut off….car was shifting ruff do you think its just the module or could it be something else.

MegaNewportbeach says:

Hey Robert check out my v70 replace crank seal video it's not that good but it gets the point across lol, and the main tool you need is shown

MegaNewportbeach says:

Also make sure you ask for the one hour free diagnostic check even with my old Volvo with 250,000 miles on it they still did it for free it would've cost $150 and they erased the codes in the transmission module and the engine module, and did a pre inspection to tell me what was exactly wrong with anything on the car !!way to go Volvo!

MegaNewportbeach says:

How I fixed the P 1618 code on my 2000 XC 70 today, I took it to Volvo dealership after I installed a new ABS module and had the check engine light cleared for the P 1618 code and now it passed inspection just after driving 25 miles, and no check engine lights or anything first time in years Lol

MegaNewportbeach says:

I have a p1618 code cel light on , transmission shifts perfect now after new abs module and no more blinking arrow, what is the fix for this if you know any?

MegaNewportbeach says:

Success Tho , no more abs or brake light on, cel is on but I just have to get it cleared, should be fine now,, 2000 v70 xc awd, 250000 miles, thanks to Robert and Midwest abs for the help

MegaNewportbeach says:

Never mind , I had the maf disconnected to take airbox out , I had it connected but I guess the comp took a minute to realize it was reconncted

MegaNewportbeach says:

Hey Robert I hope you could answer this one quick I just now replace the ABS module and now the car won't start? Was running totally fine before I took ABS module out and replaced any thoughts?

Rigoberto Hurtado says:

the other day I was driving on the freeway , there was alot of traffic so I had to brake alot and out of no were I hit the brake and it got hard and the abs and tracs light came on. that's why I asked if it was a bad thing I don't want to get into an accident. should the module get replaced?

Rigoberto Hurtado says:
