On our 2004, the black dust covers were not just clipped in, but held in by
screws (2 on the left one, 4 on the right). Came from the factory that way.
A bitch to get out too. Putting all the trim strips back was a pain also.
This job made me appreciate my old ’97 Passat a lot more – don’t have to
take anything apart to get to the struts, and if trim strips do come off it
is simply with exposed screws. Everything is tons easier.

Dude – thanks for posting this! Very helpful! I was reading the thread on
the Touareg forum, glad you posted the link. When I originally search for
videos on this I couldn’t find anything. Cheers!

Good video. Thank-you. Do you have to disconnect the car battery? Regards

Beautiful. Took me just over an hour. Getting the larger struts was a pain.
Had to really get it as far forward in the middle as possible. Right to the
metal. Was wondering how I was going to get the struts on the ball joint
until I realized I could just lift the hatch higher and it would line right
up.

@paperkiller25 You are welcome!

I did not disconnect the battery. The interior lights shut off after a
short period, so nothing was draining it, and you don’t have to access
anything electrical. Hope that helps and good luck if you are planning on
doing this. Biggest thing is to take your time with it.

Sariumthesarge says:

No Prob. After doing it, and watching the video, I feel it could have been
done better, but I’m not taking it back apart just for that. Ha!
