This video was great and very helpfull BUT I should mention that when i was replacing my rear strut i had to use the new nuts that the new Monroe strut came with, I would like to have used the original VW nuts but the threading was different, even though the nut was still 17mm.

Great video!! Helped me immensely. Good job. One thing to note however, I don’t think the leveling step is necessary. The shock is designed to pivot with the shifting/up down motion of the car. It’s not held firm with the bolt. Just held in place. You can simply tighten it up and lower the car, or lower the car to put a load on it, then tighten it up. Either way works. Again, great video!

very nice information,i like the way you always use a jack to level off the suspention before tightening the assembly.its a lot out of your time to make these videos i hope people realize that, theres a lot of times i could not find any videos on vehicles i worked on ,some times the repair manuel is not any help.

Great helpful video once again!

robinsonsauto says:

Nope, i believe that’s the A4 platform, if so its actually easier, on those if memory serves me right, the shock and spring are separate, in other words take a look under the rear of your car, if the shock is located outside of the spring, then its as simple as just replacing the shock and top, don’t take my word as gospel though im going off what i remember in the past i may be wrong, hope that helps

robinsonsauto says:

Man sorry to hear about that, Thank you for sharing your story, some would consider that lucky as bad as it may sound, thumbs up man, i hope everyone viewing this video reads your comment, just may save somebody
Thanks again

I was blasted with a top mount. I was working on a strut that was bent and stuck compressed due to a massive curb hit. The spring compressor rods were maxed and thought there was no pressure. Boy was I wrong. Broke both front teeth on top and broke the bridge of my nose. Great video but horrible memory! Take his advise diyers
