My mk3 vw jetta is stuck in 3rd gear , the gear stick is stuck ? Any information?

i often have problems engaging a gear… sometimes it works instantly and sometimes it takes me a while
and it frustrates me cuz i do want to stand in neutral while waiting for the traffic lights but this problem always makes me stay in 1st gear since i am afraid thaf i cant get the 1st gear in after it turns green xD

Thank you so much bro! This was really helpful! I got the "bushing kit" at O'Rileys and modified it with a razor blade but now I have all my gears again.
I did that’s bad it didn’t work. I still can’t get into hear at times.
