Made in the USA… hmm… why do I see a Mexican sweatshop in the background?
Made in Germany… hmm… a rubber + plastic part may cost so much only if that part sat in a 1st class seat on a transatlantic flight.
The sum of car parts is greater than the price of the car FOR ANY CAR no matter for what category of clients. Think a little and you’ll figure out why.
Yep, you are correct about the pricing thing. When I have to go to the dealership, I usually start “buddying up” with the parts guy, hoping that I’ve made a “connection” with him while he’s looking up the part. Most of the time, I get the business price, and it works most of the time. In the past, I’ve thought about how much a car would cost if you bought all the parts individually. Then I realized, I would never have that much money. Probably 100 times or more. Thanks for watching!
Surprisingly, all of the items that I ordered online said “Made in the USA”. What a surprise that was! However, the only part so far that I couldn’t get online was that spider nest of hoses and fittings that I had to get from the local VW dealership. On the packaging, it said, “Made in Germany”. What another surprise! Thanks for the compliment Joe, and you’re right, this is really starting to be a job putting these videos together. Glad you enjoyed it!
I wonder how much it would cost to buy all the parts of a car. You can bet it’s a lot more than the price of a new car. Dealers typically have three prices, one for their cost, one for what they charge to other pro mechanics, and one for DIY suckers and customers who walk in the door. Junk yards are not a great solution because there aren’t so many available and because it’s so much effort to get to the parts.
As usual, very instructive and methodical. I appreciate it since I know how time consuming it is to prepare a video lesson. Thumbs up for your skilled video operator / vacuum pumper 🙂
Are the VW and parts made in Mexico? Because if they are, the local VW (st)ealers should be ashame of themselves for the price of parts.
