I've had this 01 Cabrio for about 4 years, and it has needed a convertible top forever now. But I've never had any idea as to how it went together. I searched all over the internet for years, and came up empty handed. Your video is the first to explain how to do this. I'll be ordering my new top in a week or 2 to get it done. I have loads of experience in interior work, but never attempted top work. I'm so grateful. Thanks so much man. You've saved me $1700 in just 25 minutes.

hey man, great video and I'm gonna do it to my own car this weekend. my cabrio is slightly newer, 2001, but everything looks about the same. However, my top seems to have an elastic strap on each side that I assume holds the top to the headliner. Is this one of the easy things that you didn't show or is it not on this model

Would using some soapy water in the channel help to push the piping (@8:00) through the rear channel? Being exposed to the weather for any amount of time would wash the soap away, if you are worried about soap residue.
Like these a LOT better than the older ones (like the bugs) that have the cable that pulls the top into the metal channel on the body of the car. Where you need to tighten the cables from the inside next to rear seat.
A lot like windshield and back glass replacement in a 50 ford or Mercury, neat. Leave it to VW to be a bit different
