Location of the ECT sensor on a 2002 VW Jetta?

Diego Salvatierra says:

Almost as simple as my 240

Kyle Goetz says:

Awesome video. I’m about to replace my wife’s ETC—err, ECT—sensor on her
2004 myself. I can’t believe the dealership wants to charge $190 for this!
They also want $500 to replace the coolant fan. I’m more a computer guy
than a car guy, but fixing cars requires similar skills as fixing laptop
parts (small parts, careful deconstruction, understanding mechanics and
electronics). However, I think I can figure this out thanks to your video +
the repair manual. Thanks again!

fjones1914 says:

Thanks for sharing the tips! Is the ECT in the same location for the 2Slow
(’03 GLS 2.0 liter engine)?

xxwrestlerxx says:

Thanks bro!!! I wish I would have watched this first…I found out what
happens if you don’t de-pressure the system…So once it puked in my face I
didn’t know about the rubber seal..

StaxxxCmd says:

is it in the same spot in 02 gti?

Dennis Dominguez says:

PLEASE someone answer me. i just got home from the dealer i took my Gls
2002 jetta because the Check Engine Light was on. so he told me it was
something that had to do with the turbo but he wasnt sure that he would
need more time to verify what its the problem. heres my question. if it has
to do with the turbo is it expansive to fix something that has to do with
the turbo of a jetta 2002? please help me

Judi Dellis says:

Might want to add make sure your coolant all the way cool. As soon as I
took the pin out it exploded antifreeze into my face 🙁 but on another
note, if you dont have the sensor in all the way if you take the cap off
your reserve will it pour out of where the sensor is????

briansmobile1 says:

@jayrochaparro You’re welcome buddy

Tiffany Williams says:

I tried this, but antifreeze is pouring out of it. I depressurized it.
Help!

briansmobile1 says:

Its an air wash hose for cooling the alternator.

Raw Salty says:

im gunna try this in 30 min.

briansmobile1 says:

There are many ways to clear the codes. The best way is with a scan tool.
Other methods involve removing power supply from the computer.

carol gardella says:

will the ECT sensor if replaced new, make the seatbelt light, almost out of
fuel light, tire low light, go out so I can get my smog done?

NightShiftS15 says:

I just replaced the ECT on my car. I swapped the ECT and took it around the
block, getting the engine up to operating temp and the CEL is still on. How
long should it take for the CEL to clear?

kingkenny101 says:

i see here that the air hose you got on the 3 way hose breather, it has a
green around, that hose doesnt look like the regular hose and thats the one
i need to replace, i would like to to know if wat size or where u got it
from

Curt Simshauser says:

awesome vid!

briansmobile1 says:

@WoodPile81 Make sure your old O-ring came out. If it’s doubled up you
can’t get the clip in. Also use some kind of silicone spray or Windex glass
cleaner to lube the new O-ring to go in easy.

thebadger58 says:

Should be the same on an ’04 GTI, I’m guessing? I’m getting a P2181 code
which most posts indicate is usually an ECT valve, should i just go ahead
and replace the thermostat while I’m there? Is that pretty straight forward?

baljci says:

Theres no five stars option on youtube anymore! But i gave you LIKE 🙂
AWESOME VID DUDE!

briansmobile1 says:

@fromanDg You’re welcome. I seem to be addicted to making these vids so
chances are good I’ll keep it up.

briansmobile1 says:

@amandathepope When I get one in I will. It may be months though.

smokey756 says:

hey i am thinking about buying a passat with a blown 2,8 and i was thing of
replacing the motor with a good used one. I was wondering if you knew how
difficult this job would be. i have replaced a motor in a legacy and a
ranger 2.3l. do you think the VW is the much more difficult?

Jo p says:

can i just disconnect it and not i worry about it? i changed my water pump
last month so i dont think thats whats wrong. i turn my car on and get an
instant overheat water light flashes and temp sky rockets . what is this!?

briansmobile1 says:

You’re welcome!

briansmobile1 says:

Thank you

briansmobile1 says:

Do you have a scanner with datastream? I’d run the car till it’s hot enough
to act up and then watch the numbers to see which little punk is
misbehaving/lying. Another thought is that when pins on a computer board
act up it’s when they get hot. It could be that your PCM pins for the ECT
at the PCM are halo cracked and need to be re wet with a soldering iron.

briansmobile1 says:

@starkwead Many newer cars use it as both the temperature sensor and switch
as one. On this one such IS the case. It has one sensor that works for both
the gauge and the computer.

briansmobile1 says:

@realivedog You’re welcome- way to go!

oldsliceyneck says:

would love to see a video on the iat sensor as far as
removing/replacing/cleaning/reinstalling. love your video. very helpful.

briansmobile1 says:

@Gorill4503 Love to help, but that’s too vague and too early to tell. There
are however MANY inexpensive options in the aftermarket that make a $1500
turbo failure into a $600 repair.

enygma3000 says:

Dude, you got me!!!! I took the ETC sensor out and coolant started poring
out like crazy. Your tut is not a 100% complete tut. But still really
helpful. I went to golfmkv.com and in the written tutorial it says that
this would happen. All I thought that would happen is the ‘splatter’ you
talked about so I made sure to relieve the radiator pressure. So just for
anyone else you have to swap sensors quickly then do the wire connection.
Thanks though.

DJAMP14 says:

Hey briansmobile1 I just changed a sensor from a 2003 jetta because the
temp light was flashing. It didnt fix the problem what other solutions is
there to the flashing temp light. Also the temp gauge doesnt work neither
does the fuel gauge!

briansmobile1 says:

It’s very similar- minor differences.

Ang Vr says:

Thomas Torry says:

Sean S says:

Wat are the symptoms of a bad ECT sensor? Also what are the symptoms of a
