Thanks for the reply. It turned out that the bottom part of the lock did not fit, and therefore the whole assembly ended up being wrong. I have now gotten new parts, and it works perfectly. Thanks for å great video 🙂
I too am having this problem, I can manage to do the spring bit and get the paddle on, but the last bit isnt holding them together. have been stuck for a while today with this! 🙁
i tried taking the spring out just to see if i could get it on and all the barrel decided to get stuck at the bottom and came out.. finally managed to get that back to normal.. but still have the issue with the very end retaining clip.
any ideas would be apreciated.. and. oh. excellent video to the original poster!
Hi. I can not get the last part to hold the lock together. It attaches itself only to the paddle, and the two parts are separated from the rest of the lock. Anyone know what’s wrong?
thnx a lot on this video!! replacing all parts in not the problem, you can figure it out very quickly, but the spring is the tricky one! I have assembled everything in correct order, but key was very hard to turn… until I saw your instruction on the spring, it has to be twisted!!

To take the door handle off open door and on the door edge are three screws around the lock and another one on its own up to the right, undo the one that’s on it’s own. and then push the door handle on the outside towards the front of the car and that’s it.
Sweet, thanks mate. I ended up using the circlip to flatten & retain the spring, then used a small screwdriver to rotate the spring leg round and hold in place as per your instructions. Job done indeed (although, sure I said bollocks at least twice). Thanks again.

@GHK001 No, the spring does not fit into the upper collar. When done correctly the spring will be contained within the crown piece (the one with 3 prongs seen clearly at 1:25)

Thanks ever so much, my partner & I managed to fit the new lock quite easily even without the maglite, 2 pairs of hands obviously helps. It makes up for me breaking the lock on his car in the first place. Thanks again for a good video
The rear passenger door of my 2002 Polo wont open when i turn the key it used to open intermittently but does not open anymore does anyone know if this the same problem as in this video ?
Mate your a legend!! I spent 4 hours trying to get mine back together, watched the vid and had it back together within a minuet… The mag lite is genius, why didn’t I think of it?
The lock is the same as a golf MK4 and the bora as well if anyone is curious.
This is such a helpful vid: I had to do both locks at the same time after a week with no door locks at all. Once you find the right tool to position the spring it becomes SO easy.

Try putting the paddle on the lock without the spring, then see if the circlip holds it together.

No, no slot to locate it – hence you have to hold it down while you push the paddle down. VW could’ve designed this so much better.

On a good kit everything should slide together easily. Some kits need a bit of a jiggle to get them to work.
