1965 VW Beetle Restoration – Fender & Apron | Rusted Metal Repair

Today we repair the rusted out front apron and fenders. Fabricating metal sections, cutting, grinding, welding and more. Preservation, restoration, repairing antique, vintage, classic cars and trucks is my passion. This 1965 Beetle was forgotten in a field in South Georgia for 40 years. Let’s bring it back to life. Hi CT, any chance you could show what the spare tyre area you welded looks from under the car? I'm doing that same area at the moment and would love to see what it looks like. Cheers, Bash

Roger Shoffner says:

ct old car looking good

Ray Cutts says:

Great job, but I do feel the fenders are well over shelf life, why not pick up a couple of aftermarket fenders and save yourself a lot of hassle !

Mark Morgan says:

Hey CT, is this car a classic I was thinking why would spend so time doing all this work on this Beetle?

Chris Zengel says:

I would replace the fender it’s not going to weld right

Jon Peters says:

Those strips that you are calling spacers is Fender Welting. The rusted out part behind where the headlight goes is the Headlight Bucket.

Jon Peters says:

You need to use a sealer paint over the Bondo areas, then reprime because you can tell where the Bondo is. You can still see the line of the repair after you sprayed the off-white paint on it. Play back your video and look at it where you go past the side of the car at the repaired area, it stands out. I would seal it then reprime it and it should look better.

Everyday Renaissance Man says:

You might try metal epoxy to fix the fenders. That way your not messing up the patina

Dennis O'Donnell says:

Your axel boots need to be turned to the side Bolts toward the back Or they will split prematurely from up and down flexing of the axel
