Hot/cold is standard practice for many pressure fittings on our farm equipment. Is this something you’ve actually done on a U-joint you’ve done? Thanks.

Greg Mitchell says:

WTF! That’s a thin,no VERY THIN,tube you’re clamping!

Instead of beatin the piss out of the new cup risking a dislodged needle bearing. Place all of the cups in the freezer 1 hr prior to assembly. When ready to assemble take two out. Have tourch and giant C clamp handy and expanded. Light tourch. Gently heat shaft. Insert T. Insert cup. Press cup into T. If needed use clamp. No hammering needed in the replacement process….

I’m sorry, but I’m about ready to explode. You’re DESTROYING your driveshaft. Your actual u-joint removal and install isn’t too bad, tho you should only be striking the tube yoke on the shoulder, but you’re CRUSHING YOUR DAMN TUBE IN THAT VICE. That is only .083 wall if not thinner. Nowhere NEAR thick enough to take treatment like that. I can SEE the flat spots you’re putting in it, destroying the driveshaft’s balance and creating weak points in the tube. ONLY grab a driveshaft by the weld!

thanks for posting this series. i used them today to replace 2 u joints that went bad along with the center carrier. one thing i did differently was as soon as the bearing caps were in far enough that i could put the clip in, i put them in even before the lip they sit in was visible. i tapped both the clip and the cap down. the benefit of this was as soon as the lip was close enough, the clip would automatically set preventing the bearing cap from going too far and causing the tightness.
