Several years ago, Toyota made a Corolla for the Japanese market that was not only smaller than those sold elsewhere, but fit nicely into a particular tax bracket. The current generation Camry is expensive to own there by reason of the tax bracket, and also because it's rather large for their infrastructure.

Somebody's missing their clue, the Chinese have drop-in replaceable batteries in some of their smaller EVs. Somebody should do exactly that HERE, only with hybrids!
