Toyota Tacoma Frame Rust Repair Episode 2 of 2

Toyota Tacoma Frame Rust Repair Episode 2 of 2

My 2002 Toyota Tacoma had significant frame rust around the rear leaf spring mount. This episode shows welding of the rear section on the truck to remove all rusty metal on the frame. I decided to go all in and replaced all suspension components in the back and make sure that rust was not going to be an issue anytime soon.

I hope that these videos inspire someone to put in the work to fix their Tacoma if the truck still has value and is solid minus the frame rust. Before starting this project, inspect your frame to make sure there is enough metal to weld to and will be structural, since this is not a light job.

You've had the patience to follow through. Good job. I did mine with POR 15, I will follow through everything under the tacoma with LPS3 this october. Mine had only surface rust and no rust through, so I needlegunned it first.

Kyle York says:

What are the measurements for the metal brace that you put on the frame?

Yeah how long has this lasted? I just bought a 2000 taco and there's frame rot on each chassy

Great job1 A marathon of work ingenuity and patience. One question any thoughts of putting in a hole in the new material on the low side of the frame to permit drainage??

Hello- What was the DayStar number for the bushing set? I need some as well.

Greg Stine says:

Good job!!!! Glad I live in the south, shewww!!!!

ϟLightning Boltϟ says:

The only other thing I would do to that truck would be take off you factory rims and have them powder coated to match the color of the truck with some clear coat for extra protection. Lastly, have the exhaust redone in stainless steel. Restore those oxidized headlights.

Wango Bango says:

Why did you get married? You've ruined your life and you don't even know it yet.

Wango Bango says:

What did you pay for this truck when you first bought it? How much?

I just bought 2002 Tacoma a week ago. Had the same thought. Drain holes in areas that trap dirt and water. Good see he same idea.

Loved your 2×4 press. If a guy only needs a press once a year why have a full size stand in the garage in the way?

Jeff Stone says:

You really did buy someone else’s problem. Good job on the repair!!!

Jeff Stone says:

One option would’ve been to go to Arizona /Texas and buy a wrecked Toyota truck and cut the rear section of the frame off. Then grafted on to the front section of your frame.

Hawaii Action. says:

That back spring shackle had alot of angle

jack hook says:

My 93 Toyota pickup rusted into and broke in half folding up like a taco shell. They been having this problem for decades. And still do.

Ralph Cornwell says:

Did try to contact Toyota Corp and see if they would help you with the construction?. Just wondering because I have the exact problem.
