Wow, can’t believe this problem has been going on for years and Toyota
hasn’t fixed it. I just had the same problem on my 2010 Highlander. Thanks
for the video! You certainly helped me fix it quickly. I just peeled up the
plastic and reached into the bottom of the door to retrieve the bolt.
Screwed it back in and I’m back in business.

2006 is a 1st generation Highlander. Different car. The same basic system
applies for most power windows but the individual fasteners and all those
little pieces that are easy to break are going to be different on your car.

I had the exact same problem on my 2010 highlander. Followed your
directions – very easy to do. I did not even unplug the power swich, just
kept door upright on a stool. I too had to use a ziptie, could not find the
bolt. Thanks a ton for the video!

would this work in a 2006 limited edition highlander. I was shutting my
rear passenger door when I heard a loud thud and now it won’t close…I
hear the motor going but the window isn’t moving, which makes me think
something fell of the tract?

frankbiz says:

Thank you very much, same thing happened to me and if it wasn’t for you I
would of got ripped off at the dealer. Very grateful! They obviously have a
problem.

Fantastic! Thank you!

William Smith says:

big thanks!

My window would make a pretty loud sound (almost normal, but much louder)
whenever I opened it… now, when it goes down to about two inches, the
left side (towards the back of the car) doesn’t go all the way down. You
can press it the rest of the way, but it’s like the window no longer fully
retracts down on that side. Is that similar to what happened to you? Also,
what did you do about the plastic sheeting that’s seen in the video? Is
that stuck on tight? Did you just cut a hole into it?

chipchen says:

I was living with it for a while… then earlier today, it got a LOT worse
and almost wouldn’t go back up. Went home and immediately followed your
video to take it apart. Sure enough, same problem! I tried some zip ties at
first, but I only had small dinky ones that didn’t seem to hold tight
enough. I fished down the bottom of the door cavity and actually found the
bolt. So I got the bolt back on, tightened it, and it’s better than I ever
remember it being. Thanks!

David Signorelli says:

Thanks for this video. I fixedly daughters window tonight. The hardest part
was finding the bolt and releasing the plug for the window control

Nika Nikonova says:

THANK YOU….. 🙂

rsvr04 says:

Chipchen, that’s EXACTLY what happened with my window. Eventually your
window is going to fall off the front track when the front goes down far
enough and the back stays high. I just cut the plastic and then closed with
duct tape. The plastic sheet keeps water that get past the exterior seal
during a rainstorm from getting in the car. Get in there and fix it the
first nice day you have, otherwise your window is going to fall of during a
rainstorm or freezing temps, just like mine did. 😉
