This is The WORST Repair on The Best Toyota V8! And It's Worse On This Car

This particular repair is probably one of the Worst repair jobs on the best Toyota V8 the UZ series engine especially on trucks.

The common issue is an exhaust manifold crack that develops from small cracks due to the strange design on these exhaust manifolds.

And what makes it worse is the previous exhaust repairs on this particular sequoia that we’re working on making the exhaust one piece and making this already tough job even harder.

James Susanka says:

what a job and what a dumb design.

BG Hoody says:

I've found in a few of AMD's videos that he'll start with something like "This is one of Toyota's best engines" and then proceed to describe a nightmare situation common to that engine (which means just about everyone will experience it) that's going to bankrupt the owner because of the amount of work involved. I don't get it – how can you call it a great engine when it has such a fatal and common issue? Or does he mean it's great for the mechanic because he's going to make a ton of money?

rromanofamily says:

My Tacoma has a new frame, fortunately I don’t think the manifold has this type of design, hope it never needs replacing

Christopher Clark says:

I own a sequoia with the same situation with a new frame, yet my manifold only leaks slightly on startup. However, I keep a CO gas detector in the car just in case. Other than that 228k going strong.

greenscobie86 says:

I replaced both sides on my 2006 GX470 in 2 days. My mechanic friend let me use his lift on a weekend. One tip, if you’re planning on keeping your truck for a long time look into using Doug Thorley headers instead of OEM replacement manifolds as the latter will be prone to cracking once again.

RBS427 says:

Man, it seems that Toyota no longer makes good cars. The several engines that die near 100k miles. The V6’a with bad cam phasers that costs $6000-$8000 to fix and bad frames and now this. Does Toyota really make good cars? It seems mostly not.

JavierCR25 says:

Ouch! This sounds Land Rover level type of complexity

A Sanchez says:

Going with headers, if mine ever succumbs to this. But I take living in California will minimize the chance of this happening?

Kinann says:

2006 GX470 is EVEN WORSE. Same design except CATS are part of the manifold and get replaced, and paid for, at the same time.

Odino Huaman says:

AMD, I bought a 2022 Corolla Hybrid directly from the dealership. I noticed that a full tank should give me (according with the console screen) somewhere around 622 miles. The truth is that it doesn't even give me 500 miles: when it reaches about 488 miles the light of empty tank warning goes off. Can you tell me why this is? The car gets all its scheduled maintenance and is well taken care of. Thanks.

Milt Pear says:

Mr CCN, what are your thoughts on the 2023 Genesis GV80? I'm thinking about purchasing one.

Chandler says:

Can you do an update on the 2019 camrys!!

Abbas Hader says:

I like how this video shows the problems mechanics face that customers dont know about

Mike McCaffrey says:

I love Toyota, but as a DIYer, I have found they are NOT user-friendly. I have done what I thought were simple repairs that turn out to be headaches because you always have something in the way impeding progress. German Engineering. Lol

Ill06Taco says:

Another great reason to get a 2WD!

Katy Did says:

Excellent video! Thank you!

thewhitecarrot says:

If you’ve never heard an exhaust tick please find a local owner of a 4.6L or 5.4L Ford Triton motor.

Toni Sallese says:

Wondering if you have a video for the Tundra emergency brake ?

Chris H. says:

well, im never buying a Sequoia

vettepwr23 says:

Great video. Very informative. I did hear a clinking sound when reved during the final start up video. Is that a leak from the passenger side or just lifter noises with the V8?

timh2870 says:

One day? Terrible Try doing manifolds on a Ford V10 where every single bolt breaks off flush or below flush with the head. Took two weeks. I still have nightmares.

Mac Man says:

Motor removal is not an option? Its my understanding the 2007 motors fixed this need to replace.

Jacob Ladd says:

Oh man…I’m so grateful for your videos but this one is INFURIATING! My ‘05 Sequoia has had a leak like this that is getting much worse. I looked at it a few weeks ago to see how hard it would be to replace and I immediately knew I would be in trouble. My biggest concern is having a failure on the next manifold, but I’m unsure if getting headers is worth it.
