In this video I will show you the procedure to replace your Toyota and Lexus hybrid inverter coolant. And since it’s the same coolant with the same interval, I also included the engine coolant as well.

This procedure is very simple and very DIY friendly. Follow the steps in this video and you will successfully save yourself a lot of money in servicing your Toyota hybrid and making it last a long time!

Neglecting your inverter coolant could cause inverter case leaks or worse transmission coolant leaks (in models equipped). I have seen these cases through my over a decade of experience as a Toyota master diagnostic technician currently working in a Toyota dealership.

Tools needed:
10mm socket to remove shields and covers
10mm HEX socket if your hybrid has a transmission drain.
fluid catch can.
flat heat screw driver to remove clips for the covers.
Spill free coolant funnel
small coolant funnel for the inverter reservoir
Jack and jack stands.

Enjoy your Videos! I just picked up a 2017 Prius with 89k miles. Curiously both the inverter and engine coolant were replaced at the dealer 6 months and 1 year ago respectively. That was early on miles so I’m wondering why the Toyota dealer recommended it? Anyway, I’ll be watching for more tips!

Great video, like always. Can you make a video on how to change the antifreeze on a toyota tundra with a 5.7 liter?

Is it the same procedure for Lexus Hybrids?

Hello Ahmed bhai, I hope all is good at your end I will be soon shifting to north america and thinking to buy a used toyota prius c or prius 3rd generation. my simple question is would a prius with depleted or impaired hybrid battery can still be driven even with bit of worse then gas milage and how to take care of it. I have heard one can drive the prius car even if the hybrid battery is almost dead. the car will give little worse gas milage but it still will be better then regular gasoline car. ?? please advise.

Is this the same procedure on the RAV4 Prime?
How often should this be done on a 2019-2021 RAV4 Hybrid? Time? Miles? Thanx.

Erich Guidi says:

Awesome AMD. Could you do a video on how to do on regular gas Toyota (non hybrid) engines?

Paul Gonzalez says:

Another great video. Thanks AMD. How often do you recommend this should this be done?

Michael Stobiecki says:

Sweet video, thank you! Coming from a '20 RAV4 hybrid, how often/what mileage milestones do you recommend this maintenance routine?

Patiently waiting for your eCVT and e-dif (AWD models) fluid replacement videos :):)

Great video!! This is easier than I thought!

I have a question if you have the time to answer it. I have a 2006 prius that I’m trying to get smogged in California. My car is fine no warning lights and no other codes. I went to two smog shops and as soon as they connect their scanner the red triangle pops up and check engine light and vsc light. The code is U0293 that connection was lost from hybrid system. The engine fan turns on as well. My 12v battery reading is 11.9 with the ignition off. Is this a bad battery and could it cause the issue since the computers run off the 12v? Any other thoughts or advice would be appreciated!

Hope this will apply to that Lexus 3/4 ton Tundra F hybrid v8 dream I had too. Great info. Looking forward to my first hybrid

fpv flyer says:

Hello! Totally off topic but any thoughts on the new Tundra? I'm eagerly waiting to see what Toyota comes up with. Lexus has a new naturally aspirated V8 which pumps 472 hp. Hoping we see this in the Tundra
