Also works for 2005 prius

Thanks dude, got one of those suckers from amazon used for like $80, it was
in perfect condition and just installed it, works fine! Saved a few hundred
bucks from a thieving dealer, thanks again buddy, drinks and dinner tonight
thinking of you my friend.

Thanks for the video. It really helped me a lot with my 2005 Prius. I still
ended up having to fight with the car to get to those two bolts but knowing
where to fight with it from the video helped. Whoever designed this needs
to be tarred feathered and fired. Just nuts that someone has to go through
all this. Not to mention the retail cost if your brake LEDs go out. It is
cheaper to just replace the entire taillight assembly as I did. But I saved
a grand total of $300 by ordering the part used online ($60 including
shipping) and replacing it myself.

Go dawgs!

Thanks for this video — ordered online and installed myself — probably
saved a couple hundred bucks. Key was knowing those pins were there and you
can just pull off the assembly once the nuts are removed (just loosen these
and they finger turn off easily) — I used a plastic putty knife to get
under and pop off the assembly. Thanks again.

Redez99 says:

Thanks for posting this, after watching the video I worked out that you can
remove the two bolts without taking any of the inner lining off. Easy job
in the end, Thanks!!

Thank You very much, may come it handy one day.

I saw this vid and It looked like more than I wanted to deal with. Called
the dealership and got their voicemail, they never called back. Bought
replacement on amazon from TYC. $78.46. Price went to $94.12 when I went
back to leave comment. Anyway, perfect fit. Easy to change bulbs, like 5
mins. Whole job took about an hour. Would’nt have tried it without Lubeudo
vid. Thanks

sherwync says:

Video worked excellent. No suprises, on my 2004 Prius except i had to reuse
the three light bulbs from my old taillight assy. Thanks, great job.

VERY helpful. Thank you for doing this video.

Great to know on 2004. Glad it help out and congrats on the savings. DIY is
great!

On my 2008, 10mm socket did everything, but a deep socket was needed. The
long bolt under the pull-out trunk cover was hard to align with the hole
deep within the frame. I had to stuff a little paper into the socket so
that I could angle the long bolt up to the hole in the frame.

jglooo says:

Thanks for posting. This also works for the 2005 model. I got a 3rd party
tail light assembly for about $80 (dealer wanted $230) after the LED brake
light started to fail. The cable that is attached to the bolts may be pried
off. If you don’t have a deep socket, just start the nut with a wrench. It
easily comes off using your hands. To undo the connector, squeeze the tab
on the side and pull the wires from the car side.

I went to the dealer to find out how much it would cost to replace the
driver’s side tail light assembly, $249 for the tail light and $150 for
labor. It was only a broken lens, ouch! Bought the TYC 11-6244-01 Toyota
Prius Driver Side for $96.57 and watched this video and had it installed in
20 minutes. Awesome, thanks so much for doing the leg work and sharing.

LubeUdo says:

So glad we could help empower you to do it yourself and save. Thanks for
the note.

Ross Snow says:

Thanks for the tips. It looks fairly straight forward. I think I can do
this.

CuteThingsForCutePeople says:

Thanks for this video. Saved me from having a mechanic do something that
was truly simple in the end. Plus the savings on the part itself that
toyota wanted to charge me if I had gone to them.

Jeff Dietzel says:

You saved me about $300, at least. I’m dumb with this stuff and would have
given up after the 10mm socket part. Thanks to your video, I’m a hero! BTW,
I have a 2004 Prius and the directions worked just the same. I love you!
