In this much requested video I show you all the tips and tricks on replacing the often regarded difficult job of replacing the spark plugs on Toyota and lexus’s popular V6 2GR-FE 3.5L engine especially the rear bank.

In this video I will show you how to remove the cowl then remove the intake plenum to gain access to the 3 rear spark plugs. also I will show the trick of not disconnecting the throttle body coolant hoses to gain easy access to the rear bolts that hold the plenum in.

The tools you need are very basic as you see in this video. Also I always recommend you use original Toyota spark plugs for replacement.

Parts needed :
6 Spark plugs
3 Intake plenum gaskets
1 Throttle body gasket.

Thank God I have 60,000 miles to go before have to change my plugs.

Tom Biondi says:

Guys, just remove the intake manifold and wiper cowl. It’s really not a big deal, they’ll both be off in about 45 mins and it’s easy from there.

W. Horoch says:

Hi AMD, dude I was expecting something much better than what I saw in your video, because you made the impression, you want to motivate DIY'ers and show them an easy and reliable way of changing rear plugs, only to end up showing the procedure, people are afraid of the most! Dude, the spark plugs exchange is a childs play with intake manifold, wipers and wiper tray off. The real challenge is to change the plugs without all the steps, especially without taking off the plenum, since exactly this step is the most hazardous – exactly then many things can go wrong and one has to provide himself with dozens of gaskets to be exchanged anyway. So don't pretend you have any better solutions then shown in dozens of videos we already have on youtube, your video is just another movie, not contributing to make this task any easier. The real art of changing plugs is to not to have to remove half of your engine parts to get to those stupid plugs. In the end, you are an ambitious Master Diagnostic Technician ! And by the way, there should be somebody to be immediately fired at TOYOTA USA, for this kind of rear spark plugs access design

Galaxy A11 says:

Me watching the video: why not to buy a V6 FWD car.

osmar orozco says:

Really great video! Awesome that you are thorough & all about doing the job right!! Used to do plugs, pvc valve, air filter etc on my own all the time on 04’ Camry I had for 16 years.. really easy.. Now have 21’ 4runner with 1GRFE which is great vehicle but with plenum and lots of other stuff in the way seems like it’s going to be really challenging someday to change plugs etc.. so I’m hoping in the future you might have a video on it. Only have 3300 miles on it so no rush lol

Right Lane Hog says:

Seeing is believing!

Gruvonya says:

The Cover says:

On the 2GR-FE topic, could you maybe do a video talking about the active front mount? Also, I installed an oil Catch can and to my surprise its catching a good amount of oil, which I know is the can't job but my concern is why is so much oil is getting by, do these engines have more blow-by than usual? Thank you!!

Bob Carrigan says:

Holy cow man. That's way over my head! Great video!!

CauseAndEffect says:

Rookie move to leave the air filter on the box to let dirt fall on the clean side.

Cyriq says:

Execellent video. Just a tip if there is no dot on the window and it is clean: Before taking the whipers off, put masking tape under the ends and mark the ends on the masking tape. No need for trial and error.

James Stoddard says:

watched it a few times. This is the best on the NET for this engine

mckoy lach says:

Michel Jauvin says:

Stephen Jones says:

Sorry for the silly question but don't you have to set the Spark plug gaps with feeler gauge before installing them??

Dominic Fong says:

I guess a dealership charges around $700USD for the entire job after all the labor, parts, and taxes.

Oscar Rosario says:

Is cleaning the throttle body any different from any other regular TB?

Christian Mondragon says:

Oh man. I was just looking at my wife's Sienna with 124,000 miles and thinking where are the other three spark plugs? I knew they were in the back but this video explains it all. Thanks you!
