Andy A says:

Hydrogen is one of the most abundant elements. When ignited the exhaust is steam. Solves all energy and pollution problems, and maybe even water shortages.

nrich51 says:

I guess anything is possible in the future but presently there are almost zero hydrogen fuel depots in North America whereas electric outlets are installed at some Walmarts and Race Track gas stations plus many others. The electric tsunami is just about to break on us. The demand will exceed the supply.

David Klein says:

The guy who makes EV's thinks Hydrogen Cars is silly, OK. No conflict of interest there. Obama killed GM's Hydrogen program. Ask yourself why, and what does Obama have to gain by that. Lithium Ion is a disaster to the environment. Leave it to tree huggers to come up with terrible ideas that will destroy the world.

Mike MJ says:

This was eye opening!

Dane Biel says:

Okay ima start this off by saying i would rather go electric… first off even if you use water the thing we need to live to use it, we would need electricity either way to make hydrogen. And I doubt we would get as much water as we use to make hydrogen usable for cars. That’s a resource we can’t just throw away. Also I know this isn’t gonna be a popular opinion but Elon musk has probably put way more thought than you could even imagine into hydrogen. Like literally if it was all that he would have a hydrogen car company

Jamie Comer says:

Yelp and in said exhaust, there will always be small amounts of oil and other contaminants that WILL COME OUT IN IT!

bkanegson says:

Us vs them

Us: Produce/ capture own power for car with panels, wind, etc. at home
Them: Keep selling a product only they can produce. Gas, then hydrogen. Keep us dependent on them.

My $$ goes towards US.

Jamie Comer says:

I am old school, when you waste water and food, you/all has no business
"BTCHING BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOTHING" to drink or eat!

Unknown User says:

The argument against hydrogen is that you generate electricity which you use to split water into oxygen and hydrogen then you later mix the hydrogen back with oxygen to make water again in a hydrogen fuel cell, whereas with a battery car you just put the electricity you generate directly into the battery which is more efficient.

Jamie Comer says:

Nothing better than wasting water to keep sorry azz people from walking!

Joe Davis, Ph.D. says:

Simple answer. Musk does not want any additional competition for Tesla. Answer = MONEY.

S. al says:

I'm a Stan Myers fan. I've always thought it'd be cool to rig an old Ford Ranger … If I were any sort of a mechanic.

Tom Bahns says:

We have overabundance of Methane and Hydrogen is the solution. That's really Stupid

Mark M says:

Yeah I looked at a 2003 LNG Chevy but the tanks must take 10 times as much pressure as a propane tank and must be replaced every 10 yrs for thousands of dollars because they are subject to rust. I'm surprised
you didn't know this.

shan mchargue says:

Ok so your driving down the road and it’s 20 below zero out. So your spitting out ice cubes onto the road.

roger hill says:

With “Fusion” electric power coming on line soon, electrolysis of water, and therefore hydrogen will become abundant, and cheep. Lithium will be confined for power tools and mobility scooters, and maybe some bicycles.

Neo J. Ssk says:

The word Hydrogen was mention 88 times in this video. your welcome

Jätski.fi says:

you can make hydrogen at home as easily as you have solar electricity or any other renewable mass energy off-grid or on-grid at your own place

Fred Daniali says:

Looks like gasoline is still our best bet!

Tony Wagstaffe says:

I would if I could afford it…. I would love one!!

忘れたくなかった says:

I think the biggest thing you neglected in this comparison (unless I missed it) was they 99 times out of 100, your electric car will charge in your own garage likely while you sleep, while a hydrogen car will have to visit the pump every time you want to refill. Honestly, I find driving a battery electric to be far more convenient than a gas car the vast majority of the time. Having owned one for 3 years now, I canb probably count the number of times I've charged away from home on 2 hands, and even those times, I could almost always plan it out so that I would be stopped for lunch or something else anyway.

Admittedly, there are cases where it is a pain, though. Particularly if you want to drive out into the middle of nowhere, far from any major highway. For me, though, this is rare enough that I can just rent a car for it. This does mean electric cars aren't for everyone yet, though, even if they'd be amazing for a large majority.

Given that hydrogen is less convenient than gasoline, I probably wouldn't want one.

Daniel Stapler says:

Hydrogen cars are like the story "The Emperor has no clothes".

Daniel Stapler says:

Battery technology is ahead of Hydrogen technology AND improving faster, so how will Hydrogen catch up?

Dong Yang says:

As a consumer, hydrogen cause more than Cali’s gas price so…heck no…

Ed Daniels says:

You left out all expence on those electric battery s

V-G C says:

Impressive Toyota! Wow

EgadsNo says:

A recent Sweedish study showed that most calculations for how much Lithium is recycled use old data. It's close to 50% now. 67,000 tons in China and 18,000 tons in South Korea- so US DOE is about 1/10th accurate when they say 5% while other studies use even older data and claim 2%.

vic321344 says:

Here is a real life comparison between Toyota Mirai 2020 and VW ID.3 82kWh ( not even a Tesla)

length 192.5 167,7

weight 4075 4085

seats 4 5

power 151 204

range 300 341

acceleration 9.0 7.9

trunk space 9.6 13.6 (44.74 extended)

price 60k 48k

So where is the mirai better or cheaper? And H2 is up to 6 times more expensive to operate. A single H2 fueling stations cost 2 mill$, that is the equivallent of 50 Tesla supercharger stalls. And these stalls can be built everywhere, without the need of 500m distance to other buildings. For security reasons.
And H2 cars are limited by their tanks. You could install another tank into the mirai. But you will lose your rear seats. Then you will get 500miles max. A Tesla Model S was converted recently with a prototype battery and run 1000km/625 miles. With all seats, trunk, frunk. Something a H2 car will never reach, but will be standard on BEV in the coming years.
