Fixing Every Common Problem With Toyota's 3.5L V6 Engine

Fixing Every Common Problem With Toyota's 3.5L V6 Engine

We fix every common problem with Toyota’s 3.5L V6 Engine 2GR-FE. The 2GR-FE is a very popular Toyota and Lexus engine used in many models.

We start by removing the engine out of the car and tackling the first task which is the head gaskets, Then the variable valve timing gears which rattle on cold start. Then we take care of some oil leaks and assemble the whole engine back.

Mike Julsen says:

I know this is off topic but I have a 2019 corolla le with the 1.8 l engine and at a traffic light when the engine is at operating temperature the rpm’s drop around 500 and go up and down when it drops the engine starts to shake and I was wondering if you knew what causes this issue, I’ve cleaned the maf, and cleaned the throttle body

Doug Kaspar says:

When I see you taking out all the hardware I wonder how you remember where everything when when you re-assemble it

Antwan says:

Very good content and explain most of the detail too. Thanks AMD.

Ben last name says:

Guess i should look into the D4-s in my 18 awd highlander and see what to look for on those. Thankfully i have time. Only 30k on it.

balabay77 says:

That's odd, my 2005 Avalon still runs smooth and like new at 175K miles with no variable valve timing issues. I change my oil every 5K with synthetic and so far so good knock on wood. Thanks for sharing your video, it was a pleasure watching a pro mechanic at work.

RoadRocket77 says:

Could you do a video about the problems coming up with the new turbo v6 in the 22 and 23 tundras? I'm concerned about the long term reliability of my truck seeing all the blown up engines in the forums

S A says:

Ahmad thank very very much for this particular video. It answered all of my questions. I remember we talked in the past about rattling on cold start etc. But this video covers also the causes, consequences of running low on oil. Brilliant job and I love your approach on educating DIY mechanics!

Superwingman69 says:

AMD, outstanding! Question regarding the coolant drain and fill procedure for the 3rd revision (2015 Highlander) 2GR-FE engine- do you have to drain the coolant from the engine block drains? If so how difficult is it to get to them? Thank you very much for your time and effort in bringing us such great content! All the best!

Michael Walton says:

Folks.. would you like a butcher or a surgeon working your case? This engine is brand new and your car body is in great shape. Could you replace this car for $7k? I don't believe so!

Bennett Morrison says:

Love your work. I have Toyota's including a 2005 Sienna which I love. Do you have a video or comments about "old Toyota sticky dash"? How to deal with this. Bennett

Luke O 1234 says:

Id love to see the difference between the 2azfe, 2arfe engines. What goes into that extra .1 litre engine

Gary Cook says:

It hurts to see rusty parts being reassembled. All the $$ on the engine but not even a wire brush and paint?? https://youtu.be/iQlpbdCKT7I?t=3601 Seems the engine will be great for years. Why is rust accepted as inevitable? In Australia I drive on the beach, so saltwater is an issue. But you pretreat the car and it need not rust to bits. Granted it is harder to wash your cars in US winter- that is a big part of prevention

RC TV Account says:

I am just amazed every time I watch you take an engine out of a car.

Zak Moon says:

Thank you car care nut for making these comprehensive videos in this style. If you ever get one in the shop could you make a similar video on Lexus ES 2002-2006 model as these cars are becoming less and less common with the 3MZFE engine

pliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii says:

is this the same 3.5 that was in the RAV4 2006 and up ?

PyroRob69 says:

My wife has a 2008 Highlander Limited. It has the cold start knock. I am not looking forward to this. Has about 135K miles on it.

Fritz Pierre says:

Another joyful, interesting video. I took great pleasure once again watching and learning from your experience. Thank you for sharing may the LORD continue to bless you…

maher awad says:

I really enjoy watching your videos!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise!!!

Polish Hotdog says:

Can you do a similar video on the A25A FKS?

philsteph0304 says:

Very informative video. Will you talk about fuel pressure? My 2008 RX 350 has long starts “more cranking” at times it has new coil and plugs.

Jacob Mull says:

Would like to see something like this for the 2GR-FKS.

Adam says:

Wish you was my mechanic on my es350. Made mistake taking to toyota dealer payed for all issues to be fixed but still leaking within a year and told because I have a lexus they only honour repairs on Toyotas only. Lexus toyotas are great car but dealerships are not all equal. Love you videos.

Robert Johnson says:

Here is a problem I am trying to figure out on this engine in a 2007 Avalon. P0300 for all six cylinders. The check engine light comes on when you push the car to 80mph. The car runs good other than this. When the check engine light comes on, it runs rough until you shut the engine down and restart it. Then the engine light is off until the next time you push it to 80. My best guess at this point is a fuel pump or clogged fuel screen. Car has 150,000 miles.
