I use clutches from Cycle Concepts in in South Carolina…. He is good people and ships on time… You can google him or check in at psychobikecom and look him up…. OE is good also, I just like dealing with Dwayne… price is fair and he sells a good product….

Klutch Horse says:

one more question, did you go with an aftermarket clutch replacement, or did you replace with oem? I ask because vaguely remember a reference to “aluminum material expansion” but I cant remember what that was in reference too.

Lastly, are the aftermarket plates that much of an improvement vs oem? I understand the aftermarket springs show vast improvement.

i’ve heard poor reviews on the Barnet clutch kit, but nothing about DP or EBC.

pikey416 says:

I did my first clutch on this bike on the stands. I lost about a quart of oil that way. The 2×4 is the best thing I’ve found, most everyone has a block of wood layin around. It actually puts the bike a nice angle to work on from the seated position…

Klutch Horse says:

Let me ask, i have a rear stand, but obviously it just will raise the rear of the bike and not keep it tilted to the left side kickstand. Will that suffice to save any oil from leaking? …or do I need to have it up AND tilted to the left?

Klutch Horse says:

Thanks.. Great work and great video production work too.

Jay R says:

Thanks!
Great, informative video by the way.

pikey416 says:

Most people call them pigspotters.. I don’t know who makes them they came on the bike when I got it…

Jay R says:

What mirrors are those you have on the bike ?

Alexis Moreno says:

the one he opened is for the clutch, can someone tell me the other ones at the right, up and down, what are for?, what’s their name, the down right in my bike it’s leaking oil.

SCUZZ CARTER says:

Cool thanks

I also recommend downloading a service manual for your year and model to have as a reference guide. If you go to Gsxr.com and do a search you will find a link for free downloads. They are wonderful tools and easy to use… Good Luck!….

pikey416 says:

If you watch my other vid for the 04 it will show you how to make the adjustment under the rubber plug… If that doesn’t work then you very well may have a worn clutch… If that is the case pull it apart and inspect it with the help of the video… If you need clutches then I recommend a replacement clutch pack from Dwayne at Cycle Concepts 803-285-8093 and he will get ya hooked up….

Shaun Huegel says:

It was the cable

Shaun Huegel says:

Behind the left fairing I took that resavoir off and adjusted it with the 10mm

pikey416 says:

When you say lower are you referring to the cable or under the rubber plug with a flat screwdriver and a 10 mm wrench?

Shaun Huegel says:

I adjusted it from the top and from the left lower and the bike won’t go even with some throttle

pikey416 says:

Where are you trying to adjust it at? There are 3 places to do so, at the lever, at the lower end of the cable where it meets the sprocket cover and just behind a rubber plug on the sprocket cover. I have another video call Brocks Cush Mod where I show the adjustment being made. Scan through it and see if that helps….

Shaun Huegel says:

Ok so I have a 01 Gsxr 1k and when I I let the clutch go the bike does not move ? would it be the clutch, I’ve tried adjusting it and it had a little motion but still goes no where would I need a new clutch

pikey416 says:

1) Most modern day motorcycles have a wet (oil bath) clutch system, it really just depends on the make and model. Wet clutches require a specific type of oil, you can’t just run regular automotive oil in them as it may result in damage to the clutch. Check online for information as to what type of oil your bike takes and follow their recommendation.
2) I would try adjusting the clutch cable as a first course of action. Find a service manual for your make/model/year online for more info.

Hey Pikey,
This was the fastest 30 minutes I’ve seen in a while. Great video.
I have one stupid question. Does a motorcycle, yours or other, just use motor oil in the clutch?

Second: My bike is my very first bike. It’s a 1991 Kaw Ninja ZX-6. It was starting fine when I got it. But now it pulls forward when trying to start it, even with the clutch lever pulled in. It won’t go into neutral. Will what you went over in this video address my prob too?

Thanks for looking.

talknheadz says:

Excuse the spelling, im drivn a d same time

talknheadz says:

@pikey my dunb ass figured it out, i confused break the cable with bad clutch. I thoight movn the lever wit my hand was enough, acually i need the new cable to b able to move that sucker, so im just waitn on my cable to arive….thnx for ur support any ways….at least i hv clutch installing practice now lol!!!…

talknheadz says:

@pikey i jus took it apart, i didnt see anything broken. I removed all the rings and oiled the fiberes ones, it too easy to move clutch kever by hand, almost as if the pin that pull the stack in isnt grabing the stack. Seems like it needs a washer to shorten the grabbing length, u feel me???

pikey416 says:

Since it was a sudden occurrence I would say that something broke… What exactly that would be I am not sure… If you are mechanically inclined take it apart and see what happened, if not seek out a reputable shop to get their opinion… Good luck and let me know what you find… Peace!…..

talknheadz says:

@pikey 03 yamaha r6, cable clutch….i move the clutch lever down low with my hand want hv any affect on clutch, i look thru oil fill only thing that moves is the pin in and out, but i was anble to ride home by starting it n 2nd and playn with throttle and switching gears with rpm n speed adjustments….sol

pikey416 says:

What kind of bike are we talking about, year make & model…. Cable clutch or hydraulic system?

talknheadz says:

My clutch jus suddenly wont engage or alow me to switch gears or allow me to start in 1st gear. Could it be the pressure pin/bolt not pulling

pikey416 says:

If they are not warped just re-use them… If they are glazed up (dark blue/black) because you smoked the last clutch then replace them for the best results… Hope that helps…

rickyreyes48 says:

really good vid man. i just have one question. if your changing the clutch plates and u find that ur steel plates are “bluing”, can u just sand them down a lil if they arent warped?? i have a 2000 yamaha r1

pikey416 says:

No problem… You R Welcome!……

3vilj0k3r1988 says:

thanks for the help you were right it was the bottom adjuster once again thanks

pikey416 says:

Watch the other vid it has the adjustment procedure…I should have put it in this one but didn’t… If you like working on your bike I highly recommend getting a factory service manual.. They are easy to read and comprehend, the best tool I own… Your problem is most likely in the lower adjustment… Good luck…. 🙂
