Mark Renard says:

is there a utube for changing the anodes, and impeller for the df140??

MrFarallon says:

Hey Ray, Thanks for that video! Learened lots. The dealer did not tell me
about the oil change light and I was worried when I was out fishing. My
dealer should have told me about it. Looks like I can do this oil changing
my self and save some money. What wrench did you use to remove the lower
engine cover? Thanks again for the video, Josh

fishon12345 says:

can you do a video on winterizing/storage of a 4 stroke fuel injected
outboard?

CaptLanceMoss says:

Nice work D-Ray!!! Appreciate the advice!

buhleedatt says:

I noticed that my oil level is about 3/4 inch above the second hole on the
dipstick after having the Suzuki shop change my oil… Should I drain some
out? I raised/lowered the motor a few times and let it run for 10 minutes
or so already. Thanks for any advice, and thanks a TON for these DF140
videos!

805ROADKING says:

Great video D!! Now I can build a huge shop and fix boat engines.☺

Donald Smith says:

@strikenetter Thanks for watchin’!

Donald Smith says:

@MrFarallon Thanks for watchin. If I remember right, those cowling bolts
have an 8mm head on ’em. Those T-handle wrenches are real handy for stuff
like that. I got mine thru Motion Pro, they have an on line store. Best of
luck to ya, drop me a line if you need any assistance. Have a goodun’ D-Ray

Mark Lockwood says:

EVERYTHING LOOKS GOOD PLUS THE INFO IN REMOVING THE SHROUD I NEVER KNEW
THAT. ANY HEW, DID YOU MENTION TO HAVE THE LOWER UNIT LEVEL TO MAKE SURE TO
GET PROPER OIL LEVELS?

Kalado1000 says:

muito bom eu tenho um asim para faser meu motor trabalhar no cavalete e
perfeito SUPER

Donald Smith says:

@pigmydmm Thanks, man.

Donald Smith says:

@14081505 Not at all, I’ts hard to get a water hose adapter to supply
enough water to replicate regular operatin’ conditions. The best way to
really test one is to submerge the entire lower unit in water weather it be
a big bucket or back it down a launch to test it.

Donald Smith says:

@805ROADKING Shoot man, we just gettin’ started ! There aint no tellin’
what I’m liable to work on next ! Thanks, bro!

smwbiggs says:

really helpful info – thanks much!

Gary Clark says:

@AL0SABAH thanks D.question my 60 4stroke suzuki i just bought when running
at home with water hooked to it doesn,t pea water out it just drips is this
mean theres a problem?

tunastrike11 says:

sanpan wasnt that something that the yanks used to shot in veitnam.

KW Tennis Nation says:

Is this similar to a Johnson 4 stroke since they use the Suzuki powerhead?

obet magno says:

are u going to have a video DF140 outboard oil change on lower unit?

BlueBayouGuate says:

Super helpful man. I was off the coast of Guatemala trolling when I saw the
service lights come on and I couldn’t figure it out. Now I know how to turn
it off because the folks here sure hell don’t! Capt Starrs

TXAg66 says:

D-Ray .. real informative video. Thanks for posting it. I’ve got a little
DF25 that needs an impeller. Looks like the shifter needs to be uncoupled
from the turnbuckle to get the lower unit off. Any trick to that? Again,
really nice job on the oil change & impeller vids.

Fishnwithjoe says:

Great video. Very informative. Thumbs up.

Donald Smith says:

@Fishnwithjoe Thanks Joe. Do Yall have th’ dirt dobber problem up there?
Thanks for th’ comment.

Cihan Cukurova says:

real nice job D,thanks for your time and effort.

Ryan Peele says:

Thanks for sending, pretty amazing how quiet a 4 stroke is compared to a
2. Fuel efficiency is sublime as well. Thanks for the video.

Ric Brankin says:

What is needed to remove the lower housing to access the oil filter

Donald Smith says:

@raconter1 Thanks, Jack

Pat Kaveney says:

Great videos D-Ray. I am having a little trouble finding parts in my area.
Do you buy yours locally or do you have a supplier online I could use? Also
what about oil for a df140, do you suggest Suzuki brand or any good 4
stroke oil?

Donald Smith says:

@AL0SABAH This particular outboard took almost 6 quarts (about 5.6L) of
oil. I would probably stay away from using regular automotive motor oil.
Even if you cant readily get Suzuki 4-stroke outboard oil, use just about
any name brand 4-stroke outboard oil of the same viscosity. The main
difference in marine oil is based on the fact that outboards typically run
cooler than a automobile and they are exposed to alot more moisture, so the
additives in the oil protect your motor better. D-Ray

Losjenta Sailorgirl says:

Thank you very much for posting this. This video was very helpful to me
when doing the service on my own Suzuki outboard engine.

gaeick says:

Very informative. Mine is a DF 150 but it appears to be the same
configuration as the 140. Thanks for the video.

teson007 says:

Best ever, tks alot D-Ray

Donald Smith says:

@standupbaits Drag it on down here, man! lol!

sonofthe80s says:

Thanks D ray, this is great stuff! Just got a DF150 and I’m sure your
videos will come in real handy. These are great engines and a HUGE step up
from the 2 stroek Merc i came from. By the way nice pontoon that Sanpan is.

Donald Smith says:

@Angler180DC I havent had the chance to service a 140 Johnson outboard yet,
and I looked at an online parts catalog. the oil pan and drain plug is
different, but the oil change procedure would be the same. As far as the
service reminder, you can try the reset procedure and listen for the
audible tone. Just keep in mind that if your outboard does have this
feature, it will reset the service reminder to zero. Have a goodun’

tunastrike11 says:

i sold a boat a while ago with a etec which i was never happy with next
time i buy a boat will have a four stroke maybe a suzuki or a yamaha not
sure what is better.

Donald Smith says:

@ArkansasGillum Your lawn tractor does have one, It’ll start screetchin’
real loud just before it locks up! LOL! Have a goodun’ D-Ray

Carlos Fernandez says:

Great video, thanks for sharing your expertise. The video is very clearly
illustrated and explained in a way that anyone can follow the procedures. I
have a DF140 2008 and any other maintenance/repair would be appreciated.

Donald Smith says:

@TXAg66 Thanks for watching my vids! I looked at a parts diagram of your
outboard and that shifter rod setup looks very similar to the 50hp merc. I
did a video on a while back. It may be of help. I’ll send it to ya.

Jack R says:

Great vid, D-Ray…never knew about all that debris getting sucked up in
the engine…and I never knew they didn’t have a filtration system! What a
person doesn’t know sure can hurt! You saved some people from some trouble!
🙂 Jack

Donald Smith says:

Yes, I did do a couple more videos on this outboard, check the video
response below. Thanks for watchin’.

Thomas Hinson says:
