im rebuilding my gs 750… after reading the stator papers… i was
wondering if it is best to just update the cdi and r/r and if i do this
will it eliminate the problems here in the charging system? My stator is
fine at the moment. so i dont want to change it but i dont want to burn it
out either? all this electrical crap is so beyond me!!! ahhhh

James, Glad to hear the video helped out! That was the whole purpose. I
hope all goes well with the replacement and there aren’t any stator issues.
My understanding is that iyou are very luck if you catch the bad rectifier
before you damage the stator. I wouldn’t be too intimidated about replacing
the stator itself as far as the mechanics of it goes, if you do some
searching around GS Resources it’s a pretty well documented issue. Best of
Luck! Let me know how it goes!

I have a 1980 GS850L that is not charging the battery. Thanks for showing
this simple test. I am hoping it is the rectifier instead of the stator, as
I can change that easily myself.

Juan Delgado says:

I’d go ahead and source yourself a replacement, Regulator/Rectifier first I
put a link to a list of compatible replacements in the video description.
You should be able to find a cheap one on ebay. Give that a shot first it
could save you some money. I went with a used one from a 79 Honda Gold Wing
and it works great. I also added the links to my specific blog posts in the
video description as well.
