I got this idea from another video, and have not done it yet myself, but I must do it soon, let me know what you find. thanks

urgentcareguy3 says:

I am thinking of doing this too. OEM only, or is there a good less expensive source for these? Thanks!

Blong Vang says:

This DIY would work on my 99 Impreza OBS? (2.2liter)

Autotechviewpoint says:

What you can do is to move the crankshaft off TDC so none of the pistons are on TDC (Top Dead Center)
if all the pistons are down some then you should be able to line up the camshaft marks and bring Crankshaft up to is timing mark.

Autotechviewpoint says:

Something to consider for sure with high mileage cars, replace idler pulleys…..

Autotechviewpoint says:

About how far did the camshaft pulley move? If just a few teeth you can just move it back. You do not need to move both. HTH

terntiy says:

what about changing some of those bearings on the tentioners while it is all apart?

Rodrigo Lara Cárdenas says:

viejo, te falta una guía que va justo arriba del cigueñal con dos pernos…, (como dato)

afrontbut69 says:

Someone needs to make a 90 degree impact wrench for times when a standard length impact wrench will not fit. Like a 90 degree drill but impact. I bet they would sell many of them. I hate removing extra crap because and impact will not fit.

Autotechviewpoint says:

No if you do not know, it is not a dumb question. No not the same as the serpentine belt. Timing belt is always protected by a cover and makes sure the piston and valves are in proper relation at all times. The serpentine belt operates accessories like alternator, air conditioning, power steering…

BigK606 says:

is the timing belt the same thing as a serpetine belt AKA altinator belt? probably a dumb question but first time doin full motor work?

beglamourous says:

pretty helpful.. thanks for taking the time to put this video up.

Autotechviewpoint says:

Well I believe yours is a 3.3 but the layout is similar, not exactly the same. For yours I read that they want you to take off 2 idler pulleys then take the belt off. But the crankshaft and camshaft marks are in similar places, Getting those lined up is the most important thing. HTH a little

Autotechviewpoint says:

should be real close, timing marks are the biggest thing to just make sure they are lined up.

kristenarve says:

Will it Work on my SVX?

Autotechviewpoint says:

Should be pretty similar. Compare my car before it is torn apart, (timing cover) and see how it compares to yours.

FrostDragonz says:

would this work on a 2001 outback 2.5L?

Autotechviewpoint says:

Looking over the procedure for both , I will say yes, pretty similar. Just be sure to line up the timing marks before removing belt, mark them with white out or something like that. After installing the new belt and releasing tensioner, Turn over the engine by hand a couple times and re-check your marks.

jboydmv90 says:

I have a 08 subaru forester 2.5Lit sohc that I will be replacing the timing belt on is is pretty much the same set up??????

Autotechviewpoint says:

Ya I would not mind adding oil every now and then, instead of doing some big repair on my car.

Orson Bevins says:

mine is a ’02 Outback 2.5. I been reading an this is an interference engine. I just paid someone to do it. But the 2.5’s from 00 to 04 I think have a bad reputation for cyl head gasket issues. Mine consumes oil, there’s no leak, I need to add a qt every 1000 miles or so. If this engine is weak, its still taking me where I need to go; I drive about 3000 miles a month with 190000+ miles on it.

Tyrone W says:

hi im in need of some help my key way got damaged due to the crankshaft pulley coming loose i took the cam belt off but forgot to lock crank into place so i think it maybe out of timing im not that greatest with cars but i tried this anyway how would i know if the timing is correct ?it has marks but unsure if compression is ok ?

Thanks Tyrone
im from new zealand so yup ur going around the world

Autotechviewpoint says:

I have done that too, it may be a little intimidating, un-nerving for people to do it that way.

Araknofobea says:

i have a 1997 sub aru liberty, its a legacy but im from australia so we have different names as such, easier way to loosen the harmonic balancer bolt is using a big crack bar, against the chassis rail, and crank over the engine, the engine will spin and the crack bar on the chassis will hold and loosen the bolt, easy

MightyQuinnC says:

hey good video got some tourniquet playing and working on a subie sounds like fun

Dmitri Sulkovski says:

проще радиатор целиком снять в месте с охлаждением
