Thanks Miles. Kerosene works very well for getting rid of sludge I’ve
found, particularly if you soak it a while. Scraping it with something
plastic will ensure there’s no scratching to break it all up. The oil pan
is probably one of the more neglected areas of the car, always good to
clean/change out the oil pickup, nice to see you addressing these issues.

@shades2 We had to scrape off and use a angle grinder with a sanding disc
to remove the old cork gasket. There wasn’t too much sludge in this oil
pan. I used kerosene and carb cleaner to rinse it our before re-install,
mainly from the gasket debris getting inside while cleaning it up.

Was there much sludge in the oil pan? I also read that the newer EJ25
oil-pickups can crack and fail due to a poor brazing.
