Thanks bro, I’m going to be using this video the saterday and I’m excited. I’m also going to replace my cv axle

FCP Euro says:

Yes, I believe it is almost identical.

tonycamaro38 says:

Excellent video!

tonycamaro38 says:

Is this the same on a 2002 wrx? Thanks

Tom G says:

Liked your video. The bolt that you say always breaks, is it the one holding in the ball joint? Also, my Subaru was recalled for a rusted control arm. They didn’t replace only rust proofed. Was the part you replaced part of the recall?

FCP Euro says:

I can’t say for sure as we didn’t try, but I think it’s probably possible, you might have to loosen some of the other bolts to get the wiggle room you’re looking for, but I can’t think of much that would be in your way. Please let us know how you fare.

energizeryj says:

is it possible to replace the rear control arm bushings by loosening them and prying them down to get at the nuts holding them without tearing the rest of the arms apart???

FCP Euro says:

Yup, the setup is just about identical.

MrMuzikfreak113 says:

Hey thanks for the video. Quick question. Would the same process apply to a 2000 Subaru Outback Legacy sedan?

lain iwakura says:

Awesome video man thanks!!

FCP Euro says:

Brand new, check the links in the description for the ones we used.

Mykolas Panavas says:

i seen u before u are a fan of subaru lol i fkin love mines too

Gdlen1 says:

thanks heaps for this, you just saved me NZ$560 labour to replace the lower bush only on both front control arms, I just hope I can get the bush assembly already pressed in to the bracket for my 1993 Subaru Impreza

ofalejandro12 says:

thanks man

mschiavoni1288 says:

thanks, good to know! the more I watch this though, the more I think I want someone else to do it

FCP Euro says:

No real worries then if they’re still in good condition. Unlikely they were severely damaged in 2 miles.

mschiavoni1288 says:

it’s broken near the back mount. it’s a clean break. the car has 312000 miles on it, and has been very meticulously maintained.

FCP Euro says:

What part of the control arm is busted? Generally they’ll fail at a bushing, or the bushing it’s self will fail. Also, chances are if you’re on a 1997 with original bushings you may want to consider swapping them out while you have the control arm out already.

mschiavoni1288 says:

I have a 97 that has a control arm that is busted from the previous owner hitting a pothole. what are the chances it needs new bushings? he only drove it maybe 2 miles after it broke to his house

Bianchi Sanremo says:

If you learned from your mistakes and know how to drill it out a better way, I would like to see that video.

FCP Euro says:

You can take a large pry bar and see if you’ve got wiggle on the arm inside the bushing. A good bushing will have almost no play.

beemrdon52 says:

Thanks for that. BTW, how do you check for wear in the control arm bushings? I don’t want to just throw more parts at it (again)?

FCP Euro says:

We had severe steering rattle over bumps, it’s a combination of worn control arm bushings and blown shocks. Chances are you’re in a similar situation.

beemrdon52 says:

Hi,
Thanx for the how to.
I have a 1995 legacy with 245,000 miles. The front end is making a lot of rattling over road irregularities. I thought is that it is the struts. Could the control arm bushing be responsible for the noise? Ball joints seem good and I replaced the tie rods (although they didn’t need it) trying to isolate the rattling. Why did you change it? And, could the source of my rattling be the control arm bushings.

FCP Euro says:

You’re absolutely right, it broke on the passenger’s side and we intended to film a bolt extraction video, after about an hour of drilling and half a dozen broken bits we decided it might not be the best bolt to film.

killerguitars52 says:

Those pinch bolts alwayssss break… use extreme caution or you’ll be drilling the broken bolt out for days.
