Learn how to install a new battery in a Subaru Forester. We’ll show you how to replace/change/remove with simple tips and tricks to help get you started!
Tool List: 10mm wrench
When installing an aftermarket Group 35 battery with raised vent caps in a 2017 and later Subaru Forester with the 2.5L engine, the negative cable’s IBS (Intelligent Battery Sensor) unit interferes with the raised vent cap for cells 4-6 and will prevent the cable from being installed on the negative battery terminal. Although this video may provide you with the basic procedures, we recommend that you check with the vehicle manufacture’s step by step procedures found in service/repair manuals for the vehicle you are working on.
The use of a memory saving procedure will keep the vehicle’s computers memory’s alive during the battery replacement procedure. Referring to our Memory Saving video will provide you with various memory saving procedures that can be used according to vehicle manufacturer’s requirements. https://youtu.be/vSP3ShcaFgQ
Some late model vehicles must have the 12 volt battery registered with the vehicle’s Battery Control Module or Computer after replacement. See these videos on Battery registration and coding for more details on the procedures at https://youtu.be/TGKohKZHzr0 & https://youtu.be/cxOK_DczRGg
Always wear safety glasses and gloves when working with or near batteries.
How about some terminal grease ?
Was that a panasonic battery?
Excellent video! Thank you for explaining how to properly adjust the bolt on the negative terminal.
Please put me down for still another thankyouverymuch vote……
This video could not have been better … unless it came with a free battery. LOL! Thanks so much.
Your video was extremely helpful! Thank you!
This was incredibly helpful. Had the same issue with the interference on the negative post. Thank you!
Why would you use a battery that is going to vent right next to the sensor to begin with? The gasses will eventually eat the sensor, causing issues down the road. Just get the proper style battery. They used side vents for an obvious reason.
The 2017 Forester does not require any registering of the battery. We replaced our battery (with a sealed AGM type) and it went just like any pre 2000 era battery replacement. No issues as of yet…
Thank you very much. Changed mine with your help.
Question: do you need to play this music during replacement? And if so, where can I find it?
For a 2017 Subaru Forester… How did you take care of the memory settings… Also what about the Battery Management System?
The bolt you loosened to pivot the neg terminal is super stuck on my vehicle. It won't budge. Any advice?
huge help. Thank you!
Do you have to use the memory saver?
