Subaru DiY | ARP Head Stud Install [R-STi Build]

Subaru DiY | ARP Head Stud Install [R-STi Build]

This Subaru DiY video is a step-by-step walkthrough on the installation of the ARP HEAD STUDS! This is a great upgrade to the OEM head bolts and it will allow for increased clamping force on the head. The increased clamping force will work with the new MLS head gaskets to manage the increased boost and cylinder pressures this engine will see.

These upgraded head studs are being installed on my EJ205 motor that is being installed in my 1998 2.5RS coupe (aka R-STi) – follow this awesome build by watching the weekly DiY Subaru videos documenting every step!

Hope you enjoy – cheers!
~ Luke 👊

Not bashing you specifically, but tired of hearing the old "don't reuse your head bolts" spiel. Say it with me now: Subaru head bolts are N O T torque to yield. Anyone who says otherwise is simply spreading misinformation. There's no reason you can't re-use them unless they're obviously visually damaged. Nowhere in the FSM will it tell you that head bolt replacement is necessary. That being said, ARP studs are great for turbo motors. For NA I would always re-use. Carry on!

I’ve herd people using Subaru’s method of tightening down the headstuds for ARP bolts. Any thought or experience with that?

Good vid stoner lol

Great tutorial Luke. This is the best type of instruction for D.I.Y's , like myself, who can't get their heads around written instructions. Prices these in Australia @ $399.00 (280.096USD) they know how to get at us.

Andy Opshinsky says:

For only an extra 60$, is it too much to use these on a SOHC Non-Turbo Subaru engine when doing headgaskets?

Haha! Looks like I was shadow banned on Scotty Killmer after comments I wrote in response to his recent "Why not not buy a Subaru" vid!
Just answered a few of his criticisms, like:
"The boxer is an old design" So? it's not an old development of the design. Boxers have low center of gravity, and more likely to be driven under the passenger cabin than into it in a head on crash. Also mentioned that aircraft still use boxers – must have some very good things going for it.
"Trannys are weak" Apples to oranges. People who drive Subarus are more likely to be enthusiasts and push their cars hard – would be interesting to see how a Corolla tranny would fare under the same conditions
"Head gaskets blow". Obviously some truth to this especially for 2.5L NA engines and it's not a trivial issue, but quality MLS gaskets seem to have a good reputation now.
I also introduced him to the concept of sample bias: enthusiast drivers (more Subaru) vs conservative drivers (Toyota – he's a massive Toyota fanboi). Of course he's going to see plenty of Subies for this reason alone.
That's all it takes to get shadow banned from his channel. It got boring anyway, it's basic theme is don't buy anything but a Toyota unless you want a money pit.

Good vid. Not interested in blown head gaskets again, will replace head bolts lol

Good work bro Luke. Do you have any advice for my 97 Subaru Impreza I want to Turbo it eventually and I got a rod knock and diagnosed as a bad rod bearing can I go up under the oil pan to get to the rod bearings without removing the engine there's a little video on YouTube I want you to check out here's the link https://youtu.be/27mHuYnLick
is it worth doing?

Disraili Gammons says:

Good info Luke. Some stuff in there I hadn't thought about before. About to do the same job in a few months on my build.
