Thank you. I’m used to it being much easier to get to the air filter. The video explained exactly what needs to be done clearly.
I didn’t use a K&N but I believe it would be the K&N 33-2154. Best just to look online for the model or at your auto parts store.

It should be snug and close up completely. Air shouldn’t be going in from around the edges. (Not exactly sure what you are seeing, so a bit hard to figure out.)
It seems like when i put the filter and the box back on, the bottem doesnt go in all the way. is it supposed to look like that? or should it fit all snug?

why does the intro to most how to vids include opening the hood? it should start, if you dont know this step, then dont work on your car.

On my Lancaster that air box is empty with the actual air filter on the inner wing. There’s a rectangular seal between the air box lid and base, and it’s very important to replace this the way in came out. But essentially you never need to touch the air box. Obviously you could fit a second air filter, but …

Wow, nine Subarus. I’m on number two since 1988 or so. An ’85 and now ’03. Getting good years out of each.

Really useful. All the Subarus I’ve owned (about nine to date) have just used that filter positioned close to the inner wing.

Check it once in a while to be sure it stays tight. May want to figure some alternative to replace it.
@OLB3AP Yeah, they are in place. For me they line up pretty easy and I don’t think there was much room to miss, so no real effort. Good tip for everyone to pay attention to.

Question though; when I was latching the air filter containment back together, one of the latches broke off, on the side with the air intake. It still holds together pretty tightly with the remaining 2 latches + the bolt though. Do you think only having 2 latches will cause any problems in the future?
