The factory doesn’t install this due to the fact that its actually kind of bad for the environment, and requires a bit of extra maintenance, but it does trade off in adding longevity to the engine. It “catches” the oil going through the PCV line(gases that escape from the crank case that contain contaimenents), stopping it from ending up in the intake manifold, where its supposed to get re burned and used for combustion. Normally it gets re-burned and  that’s bad for the engine because it coats
