James M. says:

They don't care and it shows.Designed to fail starting at $35K+. Even most good mechanics won't touch them.
These are Dealership dream cars.
No Thanks

Don Stein says:

My FB25 has no leaks of any kind at 110,000 miles.

Joseph Addiego says:

The Transmission wheather it be a cvt or not should have a dipstick and a replaceable filter. The timing belt should be put back on their engines.

Every Buddy A Trainer says:

To be honest, had I known about these issues before buying my 2015 Forester, this year, the flashing ‘Christmas Tree’ warning light, indicating valve body sensor failure, the cost of the CVT fluid replacement and it’s complexity, the timing replacement, again, very complex, the cost of repairs easily exceeds the current value of the car. I’d wish I had bought a used Toyota Camry. Oh, wait, during the pandemic, there weren’t any available, at any reasonable price.

Coolstuff123 says:

I had my CVT fluid done by a Subaru specialty shop because none of the dealers I called seemed like they performed these. Most were like “we don’t recommend it and we don’t really do that, but if you insist we can”

The Subaru specialty shop did my front and rear diff, and the CVT fluid for $360 total

Steed_Digital says:

wait but do you have a video on maybe FB20 timing chain replacement? I'm about 40k away from 300k on my 15 Impreza.

Hurricaneplays says:

Last month my dealer quoted me $2800 for timing belt replacement on a 2011 Outback 2.5 with about 94k miles. No thanks. How much would a new after-market engine and replacement cost?

Rolando Perez says:

I'll stick with timing belt than the chain.
Will put money aside for that service beforehand when it reaches +100,000mi.

freethinker says:

These vehicles ARE still reliable. People just beat the hell out of them because they been brainwashed to think these vehicles can be driven at 100 mph up a rocky mountain trail or they can drag race mopeds for slips

Paul E says:

I have '15 Forester xt. I had the cvt serviced at 100k miles and have had religious oil changes every 5k. The biggest pain for me is all the carbon these engines produce. I've done the crc cleaner every other oil change and put a catch in. But this thing is dirtier than a diesel pickup. Can't even count the amount of misfire, rich and cat codes I've gotten because of it. It's a nightmare but for some reason I love this car, its a beast in the snow and has great power.

Everyday Products says:

My Ford Focus had chain and it was still running perfect at 270k miles before my car got totaled by a deer

Scootintiki says:

Who remembers, "Inexpensive. And built to stay that way."?

Paul Puglia says:

Oh and one other thing I beat the shit out of my least vehicles I have fun with them

Paul Puglia says:

That's why I lease every 3 years the only money I put into that car is gasoline an oil change that's it….

John Strand says:

All vehicle warranty periods went down at the time that we can all see reliability has gone down as well. Anyone surprised?

MITCXHELLXGEIST says:

reminds me of my 2.7l 4 cylinder gen 1 tacoma. yea sure no timing belt but the valves needed adjustment every so often and the cost to adjust them was absurd. also I would love to live in a place where a Subaru timing belt replacement costs just a grand. I got several quotes on my wide body wrx and all were nearly 2 grand after taxes. finally found a shop that brought it down to 1300. this was in 2018 lol.

Chris Bramblett says:

I’m still not buying a Subaru. Thanks for the information.

Robert Arutunian says:

As usual you point out the logic in proper/regular maintenance in keeping mechanical systems working properly. Shame that Subaru is shortchanging service at the increased cost of repair in the long run. Thanks for the informative video!

danjaz2000 says:

Subaru like everyone else expects the vehicle to run to warranty period fairly trouble free. Then BUY a new Subaru after the warranty ends. Subaru sells new cars. Not parts. Not service. So life time cvt oil is only 4 or 5 years in their eyes

My3dviews says:

I have a 2007 Legacy. No major problems with it. Are they now worse? Was considering buying a new car next year. Want something reliable.

chevyv20 says:

You are absolutely correct. My parents owned a Tribeca, and when the C.V.T. transmission crapped out the repair cost was more than the car was worth.

Luis Simon says:

I just replace head gasket in my 05 Legacy gt and do also valve Job and honing in the cylinders ,still Break in the engine only 89 miles after repair ,but after receive my car ,the car started to stall , mechanic toll me to change Automatic transmission fluid ,i did. But still have same problem any suggestions ?

Scott Bryant says:

Hilarious semantics. If you fill your transmission with water and drive it until it fails, then it, indeed, lasted for the life of the transmission.

Donald James says:

My 2007 Forester EJ25 runs like new think I will keep it wheel bearings have already been replaced along with the plastic head lights.

Jose Homer Leysa says:

i replaced my CVT at 50K and next schedule will be early @ 75K…

Anthony Faubus says:

Subarus are easy to work on and so long as one can fix stuff and resist the new car owner virus, the world is a better place. I just did my tr580 service twice at around 90000 miles and my outback is so happy thanks to Mr. Subaru 🙂

Mike Schafer says:

Maintenance all the way!

cddelta says:

Already had an oil leak on my FB25 engine… front cover needed to be resealed for about $4,000 at the dealership– luckily covered by the warranty (57k miles, so just under the 60k powertrain warranty.) I'm pretty set on changing the CVT fluid. What are your thoughts on drain and fill vs a flush. I was quoted $550 for a complete CVT flush at my local dealership.

jose rosales says:

Got to love those chain covers when they leak oil onto the front oxygen sensor causing so much buildup that it freaks the readings on it causing for a "check engine" light to come on.

Jthumper says:

3 bond vs Honda Bond vs ultra grey putting my EZ30 back together this weekend. Am concerned that the head bolt torque was rather low even at the last quarter turn step I was able to do it with just a half inch ratchet..oh and is assembly at 40F ok?
