Replacing the engine air filter in a Subaru is super easy and can be done with no tools, saving you money rather than having a dealership do the install. The engine air filter is located in the air box in the front of the engine bay. To replace it, unlatch the two metal clips, slide the old filter out, and replace it with the new filter. It’s that simple! How often should you replace it? It depends on driving conditions. It’s a good idea to periodically check the air filter to see if it needs replacing.

excuse me but I have a legacy gt turbo and I recently switched my old air filter with a STP one with my friend. we got it in but the very bottom isn't really latched, will I lose up or anything?

Great video – both engine (and cabin filter video also)!  Good explanation and visual details – saves a lot of grief. Appreciate the links to discounted OEM parts also – THANKS!!

Hang Yin says:

I just changed my air filter in my wrx and I noticed that there're leaves in the air box. Isn't it dangerous if I left some leaves or dirt to the back of the filter? I think having a professional mechanic to change the filter is reasonable, not worth $89 tho.

DevynShaverVideo says:

I drive an 06 subaru outback and air filter housing looks exactly the same! Thanks for this video along with your cabin air filter video as well.

Melvin John Cayas says:

Damn, this is the most straight forward video I've ever seen. Awesome.

Ski Fall says:

My mechanic told me changing the air filter is a dangerous task & that I should leave it to the pros. I paid him $89 & picked up my car an hour later. Money well spent.

Edward smith says:

I get the MAAN filter on amazon for $8 and change, works great

7150285 says:

this task seem a lil bit too easy for a video that long, but I guess it's difficult for some ppl that never change air filter before… lol. But there's always a first time

LEX Maximaguy87 says:

the easiest air filter change ever..2002 nissan maxima..5 seconds.

Dominic Fong says:

The hinged airbox like this is quite tricky to put back on. You have to make sure the hinges on the other side are engaged; otherwise it would suck unfiltered air into the engine.
