Excellent instructional video, and a good way to save several hundreds of dollars. Just got through the replacement and it worked well.
Here's a helpful hint – like others, my window would not go down, and the video doesn't go into detail on how to cope with this issue. As other commenters noted, I had to cut two cables on the existing window motor/regulator assembly so the window would move. Here's the more detailed procedure:
(1) Tape the window up.
(2) Cut the lower cable (between the window motor and the lower part of the regulator). I used tin snips, and I could get access and leverage to cut through the cable fairly easily. At this point things got a little tougher. The upper cable (between the window motor and the upper part of the regulator) is thicker and more difficult to access and cut. I was unable to get enough leverage to cut the upper cable with my tin snips.
(3) Remove the bolts securing the window motor to the door, allowing the motor to move inside the door. I was able to move the motor over the left far enough to gain access to the upper cable with a hacksaw.
(4) Saw through the upper cable (unless your snips are better than mine) so the motor is no longer attached to the regulator.
(5) Remove the motor through the access hole.
(6) Pull off the tape while holding the window so it doesn't free fall.
(7) Lower the glass carefully by hand until you can access the bolts holding the window to the regulator.
(8) Retape the window in the "mostly" lowered position.
(9) Remove the bolts securing the window to the regulator.
10) Proceed with the instructions in the video.
My window was stuck in the up position and the recommendation to cut the cable didnt work for me but I was able to use a wratcheting wrench to unbolt the bolts and get the part out.
so mid the video
i do not fuck with this guy!!!!
So what happens when you changed that and the window switch and the button locks your door instead of opening it
How can I manually lower my non-functional driver side window (2017 Subaru Outback) so that I can detach the window from the bracket assembly?
If your window doesnt come down just cut the 2 cables both sides of the regulator then ityll fall down for you to unbolt and fit new reg
All your windows, work fine why would you change them if they all working fine ??
I think the point this is even happen cause u cant bring down the glass to that postion so umm any intake how to drop the glass
So what if I can’t put my window down?
What if your window is stuck in the up position? 0:38
Question: Is there a procedure to bleed the ABS unit?
Thank you so much for the thorough instructions!! This was so easy to follow. I just replaced mine and saved $370!!
This video is great. The instructions are much clearer than other videos on this procedure. One problem is that my window motor is dead and my window is stuck in the up position. How do I access the bolts that connect the window to the regulator assembly?
