yes this is true on the newer sti i used the 11/16 and held gear with my
hand. but not something i recommend for someone inexperienced this is what
i do for a living.

smutbubble says:

Sadly this is not useful on the newer dual avcs subaru engine. The valve
cover can not be removed without first removing the cam gear.

I could not remove the valve cover on my 2010 sti without first removing
the cam gears.

oh really which car is this on?

i got the same extractor and its like just a hair to big so cant get a grip
on the bolt, 🙁

First of all, awesome idea. I am having a hell of a time with the cam gear
bolts on my car. I measured the OD of the bolts on my 2005 STi, and they
are 18mm. I found a set of broken bolt extractors from Sears on sale for
$17.99. The biggest one (19mm/3/4″) seems to fit well. I’ll update later
today if I am successful.

thanks for watching! hope it all worked out fine!

freon480 says:

some have been having more luck with the 18mm or 11/16″ sized extractors.

decodeddiesel says:

The 3/4″ or #13 extractor is too big. Looks like the Bolt-Out #12 (11/16″)
is the right size.
