David Sunshine says:

You can use an angle grinder to cut the heads off, then later you’ve gotta drill out the seized bolts and re-tap the threads, but you’ll need to remove the entire engine for that, which is a lot of work, but can be done relatively easily.

Femi Babalola says:

Awesome video! How high did you have to jack the car up? And did you use ramps or a jack? Thanks!

Grinthor86 says:

I was thinking throw out bearing also. Looks like a set of gear wrench’s would come in handy, what with the suby being short of space and all. Thanks for the upload, keep ’em coming brudder

nazilaba says:

there are 7 bolts on the heat shield. take off any 6 and start pulling and see what happens. very helpful vid overall thank you.

nukem384 says:

technically you should use a torque wrench for every bolt you tighten, but who does that? i can tell you mechanics dont. so i just make things tight, but no too tight like you said.

Victor Tran says:

what do you torque your bolts to? tight but not too tight? or do you use a torque wrench.

Isaiah Mendoza says:

so the aftermarket downpipe is an invidia? Did only the top of the factory heat shield fit? Thanks.

Leonidas707s007 says:

I have an 06 sti, I went to install a Cobb turbo back exhaust and at the end had a pain in the ass time getting the stock heat shield back in place. I put one of the bolts in to hold it in place after I bent it to fit and just ordered the Cobb heat shield.
I was able to get everything off with the intercooler on, but I had to take it off to get the new exhaust on. Apparently not every job is as easy as YouTube videos make it look.

Jacob Saca says:

What do you do if I can’t get any of the bolts off?

GFDeMarcus says:

Ha, good deal then.

nukem384 says:

haha had to get it smogged :P. it went back on right after

GFDeMarcus says:

Definitely appreciate the video but I found it funny that you swapped out the aftermarket up pipe for the stock one haha

Joe Costa says:

Good video

killersushi99 says:

That sounds like the clutch is out of sorts. I

nukem384 says:

wells its def something in the tranny. i wouldnt be able to say for sure. you should probably get that looked at cause its def not normal. the first thing that comes to my mind is the throw out bearing. but it could be a number of things in the tranny. good luck!

Karl De Bruin says:

Hey man hoping you could help me, i see you’re pretty clued up with Subaru. Ok I got a 1996 Impreza WRX version 2 i think, anyways so here is the problem. Everytime I drive and the car is nice and warm when I shift gears from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd I get this loud BRRR or GRRR noise that kinda rattle the car…it happens as the revs come down from 3000 when i press the clutch in…any ideas? I have had people say possibly the flywheel but i dont know.

AlwaysAyT says:

the backround music makes me feel like everythings rushed. like you gotta get a high score time limit.

nukem384 says:

DP will give you really good gains mated with a cat back exhaust and a tune.

Jared Tate says:

so for a 2000 wrx, that is all you need to do and it makes a cool sound, does it actually give you any performance gains or does that require a tune, I’m a bit of a noob when it comes to modding

JM Mendoza says:

I got the heat shield, but could not make the 5 bolts on the downpipe to turbo to come off, maybe i need some wd40 or pbblaster

nukem384 says:

thats probably a better Q for the forums, but on the 03, the first O2 sensor is at the end of the downpipe.

Fred Tabangcura says:

is the front o2 sensor location the same for all years? 2002-2007? in your video, it looks like it’s located at the bottom?

nukem384 says:

yeah it should fit your sti. i wouldnt run it w/o a tune though. kinda dangerous from an engine standpoint.

Robert Valdez says:

So I got a good deal on a perrin 3″ dp from an 04 wrx would this fit my 05 wrx sti which is all stock? And would I be able to run it with out a tune meanwhile I get some money?

nukem384 says:

just on jack stands is fine. the higher the better tho.

Funk3Fresh says:

does the car need to be very high to remove the Down pipe?
my friends say it needs to be pretty high but looks like you guys are pretty low

chase myles says:

Grimmspeed has an Uppipe DIY here in youtube

matrich2010 says:

And you see a difference with that downpipe?

javaJunky .isTrue says:

Would you mind making a “DYI uppipe”?

nukem384 says:

not too much, probably about 15 lbs

sprobola1 says:

How much would you say a downpipe weighs?

littleAZN248 says:

Man you guys have it easy! Try taking a DP off a mk6 gti.

nukem384 says:

lol, he had an aftermarket uppipe. so no heat shield

javaJunky .isTrue says:

Did you delete the bottom heat shield that is attached to the uppipe?

TheCHEVYGUY95 says:

Let me guess. you put the stock downpipe on so you could pass emissions then your gonna put the other one back on? haha

EnVsObE says:

you might have to take the intercooler off i did and just used a socket wrench

EnVsObE says:

i didnt put the bracket back on for my 09

theone3113 says:

I have an 09 do u have to put that bracket back on ?

HybridSquirrel says:

the 2L turbo engines don’t necessarily need a tune, but the 2.5L (and 2.0l sti) definitely due because they push more air through.

PocketDrummer says:

(nasioc Downpipe FAQs)
I was under the impression that 02/03 WRX and 04-06 STI don’t need it.

jace314 says:

When your under the car looking up at the last down to turbo bolt and nut, I have always had no easy way to fit a good size wrench nor a socket on there, so I have never been able to torque that last one down to spec. Is that usually alright?

Thanks

Tabor Talley says:

cut it off and find out the thread of the bolt then find a new nut to fit that bolt. before u put a new nut on the old bolt rethread it using a die.

danahritz says:

Why did you put your stick down pipe back on??
