Great job thanks

My front shifter bushing bolt won’t move. You’re saying it’s tight but mine
won’t move at all. When I push/pull on it as hard as I can I’m moving the
entire transmission up and down, lol… I think I might have to PB Blast it.

Drew A says:

Yeah mine was on super tight, sorry a response took so long, my only
recommendation would be to throw a wrench on it and use a breaker bar of
sorts… I have some Thule ski rack bars from an old car and just cut one
in half and I slide it over my wrenches if I need more leverage… Maybe
not the smartest thing (sheering bolt heads off is a risk) but its worked
every time so far. Hope you got it off (haha).

raptor2569 says:

did you have to replace the pull tie on the reverse cable? I am on a 09 sti
wagon and doing Exhaust,Cobb short throw, and cobb front and read bushings
myself soon. Great vid hope I have the patience for all of that.

alvi5 says:

is that a yamaha raider in the garage?

Drew A says:

Well not really sure there… haha. I have accumulated so many tools from
different projects, I didn’t really pay attention to brand or anything. Got
a lot from Harbor Freight, Sears, Pep Boys, Lowe’s… looks like most of it
is Craftsmen or Kobalt. If I’m missing a tool or wrench or something I just
end up going to the store and finding one specific tool, ended up with lots
of stuff over the years.

Drew A says:

Interesting… I’m not too familiar with the older wrx’s. My buddy’s feels
very similar to mine, he has the kartboy shifter installed as well and has
noticed it loosening up a bit. Might be due to mileage on the transmission?
not sure…

Perfect video mate and right timing too! Just bought Cobb Short shifter and
Kartboy front & rear bushings for 08 WRX hatch! keep up these brilliant
vids!

christom says:

yeah but it’s way easier on a wrx you don’t even have to drop anything. lol
i did it on my 04 without taking of any crossmembers as long as you’ve got
the right tools

dan233chi says:

Yea man i just did mine last night the rear bushing looked really bad i
replaces both on my 04 and it feels the same my shifter still wiggles alot
like befero

jjtrick23 says:

How in the heck did you fit a wrench where you dissasembled the shifter
assembly from underneath the car? I found it almost impossible to take it
out and then impossible to put it back together!

Drew A says:

Look up bi-directional torque wrench, then review your comment…

Wil Richardson says:

Many thanks! Used your video to install my front bushings.

lordcypher06 says:

How cute you have eye protection lol……very nice video bro

usedpotatoes says:

Puts safety glasses on, leaves them on forehead. Genius! Seriously thanks
for this. Huge help.

C4PTAINinsano says:

where d you get that cool little jack thing…and why exactly is it easier
to take the shifter out when doing the rear bushing? Is it just so its
easier to get in? Thanks for this great video plan on doing this soon.

MLMichaud4 says:

This video was extremely well put together. Videographer type quality here.
Thanks man!

Drew A says:

The jack I got from Pep Boys. If you go to 7:50 you’ll see a small circle
to the left of the rear bushing, the shifter sits inside that. If you leave
the shifter in you have a very limited range to move the that rod around
and get the rear bushing in.

dPenguinMan says:

It’s bad for your torque wrench to use it as a breaker bar. Just sayin…
Great vid BTW 😉

sp2pilot says:

Very well put together video.

psor89 says:

Ur going to mess up Ur torque wrench

mike thomas says:

do you think this video will be the same for the 2011 sti sedan?

Drew A says:

I did have to replace the tie on the reverse lockout cable. I just used a
regular zip-tie to do it.

Drew A says:

I pretty sure it will work. The parts may be slightly different along with
the method of reaching them under the car (ie this vid), but I have a buddy
with an 05 wrx and he has both bushings in his. Get under your car and see
what it looks like with respect to this video then check rallypartsdirect
or other sites for your bushings.

MrImrezaWRX says:

Nice video dude doesnt look that hard to install. I been considering doing
this on my ’11 wrx

Brian Santo Domingo says:

Great video tutorial! A really random question though, what types of tools
did you end up using personally? Obviously doesn’t look like some cheapy
walmart sets, haha.

froschein says:

Did you do that because you have too much movement in the shifter? I have
too much movement in my shifter, so i’m wondering if I should be replacing
the bushings, like you did in your video, or i should replace another
washer like piece that exists closer to the shifter on the inside of the
car. I checked that and that was broken

NaturallyAspirated says:

Helpful video, thanks. I picked up a 5-speed Legacy wagon a few weeks ago,
and this is on my list as the shifter has an appalling amount of slop in
it. I keep hearing about the “universal joint” in the shifter linkage as
well, so I may as well do the whole thing while I’m at it.

wakeboarder66 says:

Nice vid. But that repetitive music was driving me nuts.

dan233chi says:

Will this work on an 04 wrx?
