2005-2012 Subaru P0028 P0026 diagnosis fix

2005-2012 Subaru P0028 P0026 diagnosis fix

This is how I diagnosed a p0028/P0026 code on a 2008 Subaru Legacy. This should work the same on many other Subies with the same VVT, or AVCS type system (Forester Impreza Legacy Outback Tribeca) Etc. I can do the same test with Honda V-tec spool valves too, and probably others I have not encountered yet. 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12.

Keep it Fix it says:

I love the ok bye.straight to business.best part I was able to fix my car thanks to you man god bless you 1000 times over.

Cash Money says:

This is actually wrong. The oil pressure switch should be a closed circuit until the solenoid is activated. The fact that your meter was showing an open circuit already tells you that the Oil pressure switch was bad. 0.L is showing an open circuit (infinite resistance). So when you activated the solenoid nothing changed but that is when it should have gone from 0 Resistance to O.L (infinite Resistance)

Backwoods Togue Garage says:

Could this issue possibly cause a pause and stutter around 4k rpm? I have an 07 Impreza outback sport that seems like it has a fuel cut around 4k rpm

Michael perez says:

My Subaru Forester is giving the pOO26. How much is the repair cost ?

Locutus says:

That why you don't trust automotive mechanic to be an electrical guy.

Chase Morgan says:

This guys voice made my day:)

David Owens says:

When the meter reads 0L it is reading an infinitely high level of resistance or an open circuit. 0.00 is a closed circuit or no resistance. The switch is normally closed and opens when it gets oil pressure as the solenoid is energized. Good video.

Mitchell says:

What if the connector for the solenoid isn't getting 12v? Bank 1 gets 12v but bank 2 is getting 1v. Both solenoids and switches work fine, just one isn't getting power.

Optik Nurv says:

i have a 2008 impreza with an ej253bs1fb with modified internals and a few arbitrary bolt ons. Im getting a P0028 on mine and im about to take a look and diag the issue. Thanks for the video. It clears a few things up and will make this process much quicker as a result. Keep posting content!

Ryan Halloran says:

Nicely done

240sxxxvids says:

Nice video, but its worth mentioning that in this model activating the solenoid does not advance the camshaft. These have a different rocket that engages from another lobe on the camshaft and changes the amount of valve lift on the intake valves similar to VTEC in a Honda.

Richard Land says:

you have to activate the VVT for the switch to close

Trevor MTB says:

What is the part number for the switch? Or a specific name is fine, is it just the oil pressure switch?

marlon coley says:

These cars have always been some shit and people hype them up.Pure garbage

Riley's Junkyard & Petting Zoo says:

So I have an 08 forester and it's got this code. I feel the solenoid working and when I hotwire the solenoid the switch goes open circuit (OL) and when it's off its hovering around 35-45 ohms. My DVM beeper is barely going off. But I still get the p0028 code. Oil is full aswell

dd pp says:

oL is overload and infinite resistance or open circuit. 0 is closed circuit no resistance.

Robert Johnson Fox says:

badass, thank you, everything is working now <3

Electro Evolution says:

Would it be okay to just take the solenoid out, the battery out, and just connect the solenoid to the battery? Ivalready tried this and the alligator clips i used got extremely hot real quick with no audible sound

John Clark says:

Straight to it he goes. It should do something, it didn't. Now it does. Who cares why, it's fixed. Sometimes life is just that simple 😉

spelunkerd says:

Another interesting video. It always amazes me how veteran mechanics can tackle problems without a wiring diagram, just by understanding how systems work. They count the wires coming out of a sensor or actuator and infer how they work. It's not how I would do it, but it works, even when a variant is found. Normally open, normally closed, no problem.

acesarp says:

Cool video, I'm going to test mine tomorrow!
