MDG, I feel almost as if your wife and you should also be known as
subaruguy/subarugal. since you both drive subarus and it seems as if the
majority of your videos are on the two subarus. just a thought. I’m sure
mercedes diesel’s are probably one of your favorite automobiles.

Michael Sackstein says:

Oh that’s interesting, where is the starter located on the vehicle?

mikefisher123 says:

Thanks for the video dude!!!!!!!!!!

Michael Sackstein says:

Typically starter problems are the result of corroded wires which 90% of
the time is brought on by fluid leaks. So if you have starter problems
definitely check and see if there are any fluid or oil leaks on the car. On
the other hand, it very well could have been the valve cover gaskets which
I know you replaced already.

MercedesDieselGuy says:

Well, if fluid was leaking onto the starter… maybe. In this case, I’m
sure it was simply northeastern road salt that caused the corrosion. I’m
glad that’s all it was, though.

MercedesDieselGuy says:

Top, driver’s side, rear of engine. It does run underneath some heater
hoses, but if those are leaking, the car’s in far more danger of an
immediate overheat situation.

MercedesDieselGuy says:

I hope it helps. It’s simple, but my starter has been working perfectly for
almost two weeks now. Before that, it would act up every day or two.

MercedesDieselGuy says:

I’ll be getting back to the diesel once my Outback is fully sorted-out.
Until then, I’m just video-ing what I can on this car.
