noproblema50 says:

I will be trying to do this today to my saturn since TY

FiremanCV says:

Let me know what you find out. If you have problems, let me know..

FiremanCV says:

I you have all forward gears and no reverse, then you may have an input
shaft nut problem.check the link at the top for saturnfans and do a search
for input shaft or look here on youtube under”saturn input shaft” let me
know how you make out or need anything 🙂

Phillip Sandoval says:

I did not check the solinoids, all gears got hard at the same time, but I
will. I hope its just a fuse that would be easy, the batt is 1 year old and
there does not seam to be a problem with the charging system. the fluid has
around 15 k on it. thanks for the tips I will get started today. Phillip

FiremanCV says:

What is your fluid level at ? When is last time you changed the filter &
fluid?

tommyguns14able says:

Can this be done in the car?

FiremanCV says:

Look at link at top , go to saturn fans and look up wolfmans cure for
reverse slam. You will find your answer there. Hope this helps/ Good Luck..

sabercatpuck says:

Guessing it is too late for you but should others have a question the 91-92
1st design have a flat area above the connecting hole that goes up. The 2nd
design has a notch that goes up and was used in 92-93. In 94 they switched
to the style with the cap.

Blake Thackeray says:

My transmission does not have the plastic clip on the end of that rod. Is
this a problem. Also, is it important which way it goes back in? Since mine
doesn’t have the clip, I can put the rod back in the hole in two different
places.

FiremanCV says:

@qx773 Exactly, I’m Glad you liked the video. Us Saturn owners have to
stick together as there is little information on these great little cars
available. Some people are scared to slide this rod at all, but it does
help to do this. I wish you luck with your saturn & hope you get many miles
with it 🙂

MacHead G5er says:

nice. much needed video after watching the other 2. good job 😛

tommyguns14able says:

@FiremanCV Thanks I just picked up a Saturn for really cheap with trans
problems. This helps a lot! I really like that the pan is topside. Am I
better just to replace the valve body rather than solenoids?

FiremanCV says:

Transmission fluid won’t hurt it, just get it out as best as you can.Check
them hot & cold, write down the numbers.Let me know what they are
please. You may have to check them 5-6 times. If you still get erratic
readings then there is a strong possibility they are bad.You can so a
solenoid swap or swap out with a used or new valve body. Let me know how
you make out.

FiremanCV says:

Sounds like the valve body. Did you check the solenoids at all ? Also, how
is the fluid level & the last time you changed the transmission filter?
Also, make sure you check the fuses under the hood, not in the car. A blown
fuse can give you a hard time as well. I take it, the battery & charging
system is good?

weefees says:

I recently pulled a valve body from a wrecker SL with 50,000km and it was a
mystery how I was going to put the shift linkage rod back on when I install
it on my car. Now I’m not worried at all! Thanks for pulling the tranny and
making this video.

Kurtiskurtical says:

FiremanCV, I can’t thank you enough for posting this video! You saved me
about $650+ in repair bills! After the new Valve Body was in my ’97 SW2,
the hard reverse slam and delay in shifts went away! Again, thank you! JUST
FYI: I was able to replace the Valve Body without removing the lower half
to the intake housing or having to remove the bushing in front of the Valve
Body cover. It does make the job harder but on the plus side, there’s less
to take apart.

NeatAjro Illyrian says:

do i have to do this if i have a bad tcc solenoid? i have code p0742. 1999
saturn sl1. thanks.

Phillip Sandoval says:

Hello I talked with you about 2 years ago, you helped me with the side nut
problem. yesterday my 97 sc2 started shifting very hard, even when down
shifting and going into reverse, (but reverse works fine once engaged), I
am thinking valve body, it was changed about 4 or 5 years ago at the dealer
(car had extended warranty) the car has about 85 thousand miles on it looks
real good and motor runs perfect. Any input you have would greatly
appreciated. Thank You

MrDennypooh says:

Question: My wife has the our Saturn 1999 SL2 all the time and I now
realize we have not changed the transmission fluid or filter in a few
years. Could this cause my reverse to make a thump sound or cause the first
and second gear to slip when shifting into gear? What are some quick and
easy steps I can do before I know I must replace the input/output shaft
nuts or the valve body and transmission solenoids? Your videos are
interesting.

FiremanCV says:

@tommyguns14able Yes, Absolutely !! No need to remove engine or
transmission 🙂

Gerrit Hoevers says:

Between you and Richpin I could rebuild my ’98 Saturn SC2 from the ground
up. Thanks a lot for taking the time to do the work and share it. Much
appreciated.

Mark Peterman says:

THANKS BIG HELP TO ME.

Tom Cyr says:

The rod reinstall is the critical element in all this. Thanks for covering
it in this video.

FiremanCV says:

Your Welcome 🙂

FiremanCV says:

You can either swap out the solenoids or replace the whole valve body.I
have videos on how to swap the solenoids.

FiremanCV says:

@hunt4steve Valve body- 97 Inch Pounds Valve body cover- 106 Pounds

Omar Chisolm says:

@firemanCV cool man my VB should get to me tomorrow so i’ll be getting
dirty again, and i hope this fixes my troublez.

mariasmassage1 says:

I have a 02 Saturn SL. It shifts hard and slams into gear with a back jump.
I notice if I let off the gas right before it shifts gears, sometimes it
doesn’t shift as hard, but if I have to stop quickly it slams into gear
very hard (actually bouncing the car). Should I replace the individual
selenoids or just get a new valve body? Does this sound typical of a valve
body issue? Everywhere I looked, it indicates the valve body. Any advice?

Blake Thackeray says:

1993, I swapped it with one from the junkyard and it was the same. No
plastic clip. I think I might have the rod rotated 180 degrees from where
it is supposed to be. Either way, i have 5 good solenoids and two valve
bodies. When i put my car in reverse, it goes forward and my shifts are
super soft. I was thinking i either put this rod in wrong or I have 2 bad
valve bodies…

Morgan L says:

had the same car same issue just changed all the solenoids it runs like a
champ

FiremanCV says:

@tommyguns14able You may be able to just replace the solenoids like others
have.. It will be cheaper but a new valve body will have been updated with
many improvements. You can find them on ebay. Or get a used one from a junk
yard. You might be able to get a valve body from a junk yard cheaper than
the cost of a transmission, but it will be a gamble. Good luck 🙂

Phillip Sandoval says:

I checked my solinoids 2 were fine, but 3 I could not get a good reading,
the meter was all over the place, ther was a little trans fluid in the
connector, is this bad?, I wiped with a paper towl before testing. as
always any input is apreaciated. thanks Phillip Sandoval

karlakatie1522 says:

Checked all my solenoids on my 02 s series all checked out good at 5.6 ohms
each, I’m getting I faint whine in the tranny in 1st and second gear , what
can that be? Also on the highway, when trying to accelerate , I need to
bury my foot to the floor , and after like 3 seconds she goes, the rpm’s
will shoot up to 3000, what gives…… Please help, p/s the tranny fluid
is nice and red, not burnt

FiremanCV says:

What year is you saturn? Does the old or replacement valve body have the
plastic. Usually if there is no plastic tip, it is an older valve body.

FiremanCV says:

@Kurtiskurtical Glad it all worked out in the end for you 🙂

thec4ke says:

As usual you’ve saved many a Saturn owner lots of trouble, and probably
kept a few cars out of the junkyard. Many thanks!

charlie patterson says:

Thanks so much for that video. I’m new to Saturns, but have been pulling my
own wrenches for over 40 years. I’m currently replacing the valve body on a
Saturn with the ABS and wasn’t sure if loosening the MC would allow the
clearance I need to get the pan off. You just proved it for me. Thank you
so much and I hope to see more videos on the Saturns that you have posted.
I love the car and plan on keeping it a while. You sir, deserve a nice cold
beverage of your choice!

FiremanCV says:

No problem, hope it helped 🙂

Wayne Hatch says:

FiremanCV, Thank you for your videos….. I need some help….. I have a 96
SL2 that will not go into reverse. I pulled the end off the trans to
replace the input shaft nut, nut it was tight and looked fine. Then I went
to the wrecking yard and got a valve body…. Your instructions helped me
along nicely. Sadly, when I was done, still no reverse….. Any Ideas?
