simontheboywonder says:

thanks for the help but you coulda said that mirror part right at the beginning!

Lamar Neucopia says:

I have a 2000 saturn sl2. What is the gauge of the positive battery cable from the battery to the starter? And the gauge of the fuseable link?

R Lap says:

That is quality video information, thank you

Elaine Kain says:

Doing this today – video helps a lot! Mostly on sockets and such, I end up repeating the mantra “righty-tighty, lefty-loosy” several times… I will assume it’s easier than replacing the radiator, which I had to do last month (sigh). Your videos are absolutely wonderful!

richpin06a says:

I would check voltage from the main positive battery cable to the starter then the start wire at the starter for voltage. In my experiences when both those check out good it is the starter that is at fault.

Jeff Camp says:

I have a 200 ls1 that will not start. It won’t even click when I turn the ignition. The lights and everything come on so I don’t believe it’s the battery. Any thoughts?

homba says:

You’ve saved me many hours of frustration, not to mention money. Your videos are the first place I look when my Saturn needs work. Thanks a million!

roadruner6574ify says:

hey my saturn won’t crank just clicks at fuze box changed starter. Sometimes it will start and then not all fuze are good I don’t know. Any info would be great.

L45V3G45 says:

LOL i really enjoyed your concise tutorials.
The saturn should be called the 10 millimeter car though.

richpin06a says:

Sounds like you possible have a wire with power connected to the starter terminal of the starter.

Kevin Donnelly says:

I just changed the starter on my car and reconnected everything back. When I connect the terminal back up the car starts cranking on it’s own without a key even in the ignition.

Bradey Merrill says:

Thank you! I’m a college student that can’t afford the mechanic’s price to do this. This is most helpful!

richpin06a says:

You can take it out and have it tested.

boogeyman348 says:

hey – i got a 96 sl2 – when u drive it for a little while and stop turn key off and go to start back up it just makes 1 click noise from the starter- some ppl said the starter is getting hot — because once it’s cooled down it starts right up- he car isn’t getting hot– it’s just the not starting up after warmed up. are they right about the starter getting to hot ? does it need a new one?thats my next option on my list ,but at 120 bucks 4 a new 1- i’d really like to know 4sure. thanks

richpin06a says:

Yes we do talk funny.

David Brown says:

Sheesh…ain’t never heard nobody from Bahstin before?
Great video. Used this as my guide, and hang the ol’ Haines manual. Well done, and thanks a million!

Scott Weber says:

He said Saturn S Series. Take the shit out of your ears.

Brzeczyszczykiewicz Trzetrzopszczulski says:

wHAT IS THE NAME OF THE CAR??? sasy? saser? Could you take golf ball out of your mauth when to say name of the car??

David Major says:

I have a 2001 Saturn L200, and I couldn’t turn the key and the wheel was locked up. So we took the spare key and it turned on, the car sounded very weird then shut off in about a minute. Popped the hood and smell something burning, tried to start it again heard a click and started smoking. The smoke was coming from a black housing of wires that split in 3 different directions. It seems the only thick red wire inside got really hot and burned the the black wrap around it. please help

richpin06a says:

Thank you that is a great idea.

pepene93 says:

rich, instead of using tape to hold the bolt on the socket, you can try to find a magnet that gues into the socket just to the end of the splines. works a bit better from my experience

Krysta Bruynson says:

thank you very much for uploading this. best help. you are a magician. and you earned me a case of beer.

richpin06a says:

Do you have spark at the spark plugs.

imall4god says:

Hi rich pin I have a 93 saturn sc1 Were trying to make this car last awhile. Starter turn over and cranks but won’t start the engine. Slow charged battery good, put in a new cps, new ects, plugs, wires, a new fuel filter, u can hear fuel pump come on, we took out the starter and had it tested 2x and shows good. Could this starter still be bad? Engine turns good my husband says. Any help will be appreciated this

Garth Davis says:

That top bolt is a pain, I was laying on top of the engine before I saw this video to try and get to it, ended up breaking the mounting brackets for my headlight… If It’s not one thing It’s another.

daddytech says:

Update: replaced the crank position sensor and the problem still exists. out of curiosity i put the fuel pressure tester on the fuel line to test it and when i first crank it up the fuel pump runs from 40 – 45 PSI once the 10 minutes is up you can watch the pressure drop off as the fuel pump shuts off and at that point the car is only using up whatever fuel is in the lines still. I am thinking the pump but i know there’s a relay in there that can cause a problem too. new idea?

ibdam1 says:

Thanks Rich. The battery is charged but I will try the load test this weekend and keep you posted.

richpin06a says:

Is the battery changed up and have you done a load test on the battery.

ibdam1 says:

Thanks for all the tips on the starter. I replaced mine on a 2000 sl1 the car has power but when I try to start the car everything goes dead. Do you have any ideas on what I should check? Thanks

richpin06a says:

Important Update: Jan 2013 there will be a new richpin channel for all future videos.Richpin06a channel will be mainly for all the Saturn lovers out there.Should be a lot of fun so stay tuned.

crackertroy says:

THANKS for posting this video it has been a GREAT HELP!!! That back bolt ain’t no friend but altogether not a bad job. Thanks again for posting this video.

BuckslayerBob says:

No access from the top on a 2000 sl2. I got it done though thanks to richpin and I did it in about an hour!

BuckslayerBob says:

Thanks richpin! Love your videos! Huge help!

richpin06a says:

Sounds like it was dicey there for a moment but you got her done.

j0hnnymax says:

Hi Rich, I changed the starter on my 95 sw2 and what a bear. I stripped the top hole trying to get that bolt in struggling late into the night. Next day I talked to my neighbor an old farmer handy man and he told me how to work the new bolt in. So I got the hole threaded using the bolt, then I was attemping to put the starter back and he asked me why not do the top bolt from the top by removing the air cleaner assembly. I did this and worked liked a charm. Easy access from the top… 🙂

richpin06a says:

No voltage…..Ok here is how the voltage gets to the natural safety switch. The purple wire from the switch goes to the underhood fuse box connects to a yellow wire and heads to the security starter relay under the dash for (97-99).From there it goes to the ignition switch.

Ben Dover says:

Hey rich, I have checked the neutral safety switch wires and they arnt getting any voltage. You think it’s the ignition switch or the neutral safety switch?

richpin06a says:

Sounds like there is one heck of a load on the starter or something in the starter itself is not right.I would double check my negative and positive cables to make sure they are clean on both ends.

Andrew C says:

connection. Unpulugged the negative battery cable, redid the starter wires and then tried again. After that I was back at square one because then the car didn’t even want to click. It’s again completely silent when trying to start it. Any ideas?

Andrew C says:

Well yeah the horn sounds when I press the buttons, but one thing now confuses me even more. I threw the starter back in the car a couple of hours ago and then went to crank. It tried to turn over several times and a few times it sounded like it had a few turn overs and wanted to start then after a while just started to click. I then looked and saw smoke coming from the negative battery cable and the starter where it meets the solenoid. I thought I connected them wrong so went to redo the

richpin06a says:

Sounds like there is a possible problem with the security system.Does the horn work when you push on the horn buttons.

Andrew C says:

Sorry for all the posts. I also forgot to mention that I did pour oil in the car without a funnel and some fell behind the motor and dripped down on a few wires. I cleaned them off a bit after taking off the starter, but it still does nothing.
